This role will focus on establishing high-quality curricula that align with industry standards, promoting employability and technical skills in students, and supporting teachers in delivering cutting-edge digital media education. The Coordinator will also oversee technology integration efforts on the magnet campuses, professional development for magnet school educators, and ensure legal and ethical compliance in digital instruction.This is a grant-funded position and is contingent on availability of funds.
Qualifications :
- Education : Bachelor's Degree in Educational Technology, Information Technology, Digital Media, or a related field.
- Experience : Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in digital media, IT, or related industry experience
- Certification : Teaching certification and administrative certification preferred (or eligibility).
- Technical Skills : Expertise in digital media production, including graphic design software, video / audio editing, animation tools, and project management platforms.
Special Knowledge / Skills : General knowledge of curriculum and instructionAbility to monitor and oversee student field experiences in career area assignedStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsWorking knowledge of the gaming industry, including game design, game development, game art, game testing, eSports competition strategies, Unity, and C Knowledge of relevant software, tools, and technologies used in the gaming and graphic arts industry.
Experience : Student teaching, approved internship, or 3 years of wage-earning experience in area of certification. Preferred, not required.
Key Responsibilities and Duties : 1. Program Leadership and Development : o Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of digital media and IT curricula, ensuring alignment with state standards, industry requirements, and emerging technology trends.
o Establish a district-wide vision for digital media education, focusing on preparing students for careers in digital media, information technology, and related fields.o Collaborate with school principals, teachers, and curriculum specialists to integrate digital media projects and employability skills into existing academic programs.2. Teacher Support and Professional Development : o Provide leadership, coaching, and support to teachers in the implementation of digital media and IT curricula.o Organize and facilitate professional development workshops and training for teachers, focused on new digital tools, software, and instructional strategies.
o Mentor and support educators in project-based learning approaches, helping them incorporate digital media projects into their classrooms.3. Technology Integration and Innovation : o Spearhead the integration of emerging technologies (e.g., blogs, social media, podcasts, animation, virtual reality) into digital media programs across the district.o Evaluate and recommend software, tools, and digital platforms that enhance teaching and learning in the areas of media production, graphic design, video / audio editing, and animation.o Collaborate with the district IT department to ensure that schools have the necessary technological infrastructure to support digital media instruction.4. Curriculum Alignment and Standards : o Ensure all digital media and IT programs are aligned with state educational standards, certifications, and pathways that prepare students for future careers in the field.o Design frameworks for digital media courses that include key skills such as graphic design, video production, animation, digital ethics, and project management.o Develop district-wide assessments to evaluate student mastery of digital media skills, ensuring measurable outcomes and continuous program improvement.5. Career and Industry Partnerships : o Foster partnerships with local businesses, industry leaders, and post-secondary institutions to create pathways for student internships, apprenticeships, and career opportunities in the digital media field.o Ensure that students are prepared for both college and career through programs that integrate resume building, digital portfolio creation, and exposure to real-world industry practices.6. Legal and Ethical Compliance : o Develop district policies and guidelines regarding the ethical use of technology, intellectual property, copyright laws, and digital content creation.o Ensure that students and teachers adhere to ethical standards in technology usage, including proper citation of digital content, copyright compliance, and data privacy.o Train staff and students on the legal implications of digital production, including intellectual property laws, fair use, and digital privacy.7. Project and Resource Management : o Oversee the acquisition and management of digital media equipment, ensuring schools are equipped with up-to-date technology such as cameras, audio equipment, and editing software.o Develop and manage the budget for the digital media and IT program, ensuring effective allocation of resources for both short-term projects and long-term initiatives.o Supervise district-wide digital media projects, providing strategic oversight from project initiation to completion, ensuring timelines and goals are met.8. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication : o Serve as the district's primary point of contact for digital media and IT programs, effectively communicating with school leaders, parents, and community stakeholders about the benefits of these programs.o Lead district initiatives to promote digital literacy, media production, and technology skills through community events, student showcases, and online platforms.o Advocate for the importance of digital media education at school board meetings, state-level forums, and within the larger educational community.
