About the Organization
Longview Power plant is a 700 MW net electric power generating facility selling the power to the wholesale market and having an interconnection to First Energy and PJM. the objective of Longview Power, LLC is to provide "clean" reliable and sustainable power generation."
The Longview Power plant site is approximately 225 acres located in Monongalia County in the community of Fort Martin, approximately four (4) miles north of Morgantown and one (1) mile south of the Pennsylvania State line.
The plant utilizes a supercritical pulverized coal once through boiler. Longview can use over 2 million tons of coal per year, provided by an outside supplier, and brought to the power plant by a combination of barge and trucking. The coal can be diverted to either a site coal storage or directly to the boiler house. The storage pile is managed on site to maintain operations during fuel transport interruptions.
The plant uses low NOx burners and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides; injects hydrated lime to remove acid gasses; a fabric filter baghouse to collect particulates, and flue gas desulfurization, using limestone, to remove sulfur dioxide and mercury.
Process water is supplied to Longview from Dunkard Creek Water Treatment Systems. The water undergoes a filtration process and reverse osmosis and is piped to the Longview site. The water pipe extends approximately 5.5 miles.
