Job Summary
The Occupational Therapy Assistant, Certified assists in preparation of patients for treatment under the direction of occupational therapist. May be responsible for operation and maintenance of equipment. Prepares and sanitizes treatment room for the patients. Helps maintain the medical records of the client and perform various clerical duties. Greets the patients and schedules appointments. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision.
Essential Functions
- Communicates effectively. Establishes and maintains two way communication with peers, staff, physicians, leaders, and administration.

- Follows through on problems that may compromise patient care by using the appropriate chain of command.
- Cooperates well with peers and supports group decisions.
- Communicates appropriate information to lead staff member, supervisor, manager or director in a timely manner.
- Maintains a clear, neat and safe environment for patients and staff. Reports unsafe conditions immediately
- Rehab board and schedule is reviewed daily, and activities are carried out as assigned.
- Demonstrates understanding of interdisciplinary therapeutic interventions including contraindications and precautions with the application of modalities based on patient age and associated risk factors.
- Ensures equipment is thoroughly cleaned as scheduled.
- Ensures equipment is kept in an organized manner.
- Attends team meetings and offers ideas/solutions in problem solving situations/activities regarding the program.
- Offers positive suggestions/solutions to improve service delivery and unit operations.
- Demonstrates competence in necessary technical skills.
- Adheres to safety standards for staff and patients, and encourages compliance by others.
- Provides services with respect to human dignity and the uniqueness of the client, unrestricted by considerations of social or economic status, personal attributes, or the nature of the health problem.
- Protects patient confidentiality at all times and facilitates effective communication with all patients.
- Demonstrates a complete knowledge of the correct use of all forms/computer skills required in the day-to-day operations of the unit.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree graduate from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program preferred
- 0-1 years experience in healthcare with adults, geriatrics, or individuals with physical disabilities. required
- 1-2 years experience in healthcare with adults, geriatrics, or individuals with physical disabilities. preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Comprehensive understanding of occupational therapy, and rehabilitation practices.
- Knowledge of state, federal, and industry regulations and ensuring compliance.
- Ability to provide high-quality patient care and execute treatment plans.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff, patients, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to identify issues and develop effective solutions.
- Knowledge of managing and maintaining therapy equipment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare departments and professionals.
Licenses and Certifications
- BCLS - Basic Life Support Current American Heart Association BLS card required
