Longwood Gardens is seeking a part-time Plant Healthcare Technician to join our Horticulture team. Responsibilities include:
- Scouting growing and display areas for insects and other pests, including diseases and plant viruses
- Managing nuisance pest issues, including ants, wasps, and cockroaches
- Performing Plant Healthcare treatments (biological, chemical, cultural, and mechanical), as needed
- Supporting laboratory activities, such as virus testing and microscope work
This individual would work an average of 28-hours per week. The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in integrated pest management - preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet-based software
- A valid drivers’ license and ability to operate small utility vehicles
- The ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
- A Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator License is preferred or willingness to obtain it within 3 months of hire date
- The ability to work with staff, interns and seasonal staff
- The ability to work independently and within a team setting
