Longwood Gardens is seeking a seasonal Nursery Horticulturist to support our Woody Nursery team from May through September. This individual will perform a variety of tasks under the direction of our experienced Horticulturists. Responsibilities include:
- Staking, mulching, pruning, potting, transplanting, digging, watering, fertilizing, soil mixing, irrigation maintenance, and assisting with the upkeep and cleanliness of work areas
- Grooming of plants as they are prepared for displays throughout the Gardens
- Assisting with transporting plants to and from growing areas, which involves occasionally working around trucks, lift gates, forklifts, and utility vehicles
Requirements for this position include:
- The ability to work as part of a team and independently
- The ability to perform manual, repetitive tasks independently
- The ability to work outside in varying weather conditions
- The ability to lift at least 50 pounds
- The ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods
- The ability to carry items as needed for tasks
- Prior horticultural experience and/or knowledge preferred but not required
- A valid driver’s license
This role requires 40 hours per week, starting each day at 6:30AM.
