Microelectronics Instructor


Position Title: Uplands Microelectronics Academy Instructor Department: Instruction Classification: Teacher, Full-time Status: FLSA exempt

Reports To: Principal, Superintendent


SUMMARY:
The Uplands Microelectronics Academy instructor will be responsible for the instruction and coordination of the Uplands Microelectronics Academy at WestGate Technology Park located in Crane, IN.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with high school students.
  • Provide effective instruction to students in STEM Electronics & Computer Technology and other related courses.
  • Effectively collaborate with multiple partners including Bloomfield High School, Loogootee High School, Washington High School, NSWC Crane, Rel-Micro, Ivy Tech Community College, related career and technical education teachers, and community stakeholders.
  • Direct, develop and grow the Uplands Microelectronics Academy.
  • Maintain complete and accurate student records.
  • Consult with parents regarding student academics and personal behavior as needed.
  • Report suspected neglect or child abuse to appropriate authorities in a timely manner and effectively communicate such concerns with administration.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Carry out other essential duties, such as before and after school supervision duties as assigned by the building principal.
  • All additional duties as assigned by the principal and/or superintendent.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with district policies and applicable laws.

As Instructor of the Academy, additional employment responsibilities will be likely during the summer months. Additional compensation will be provided for days worked beyond the 183-day teaching contract.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years engineering/computer science experience, or an Indiana State Teaching license in a related Career and Technical Education area.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Indiana Teaching License or the willingness and ability to obtain an Indiana Workplace Specialist teaching license.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Exceptional ability to write grants, reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals clearly and concisely using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, teachers, students, and community. Ability to effectively speak in front of large groups.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts, such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to prepare, project, monitor and revise budgets.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to use available information and develop realistic long term and short-term curriculum plans for the Uplands Microelectronics Academy.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to operate computers and related software. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to interact positively with staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to work independently, to function effectively in a multi-task environment, and to interact positively with the public. Ability to maintain confidentiality about school and student business. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and community. Ability to maintain high attendance rate. Ability to perform duties with awareness of and compliance with related Board of School Trustees policies and state requirements.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and occasionally stand and walk. The employee must be able to see and read close work such as typed or handwritten material and have good depth perception. The employee must be able to hear conversation and to communicate through speech. Occasionally the employee will repeat the same hand, arm or finger motion many times. The employee is occasionally required to squat, stoop, or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee must lift or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to push items of 50 pounds or more, such as pushing materials on a cart. The employee will be working within a school-based manufacturing/training facility which may require additional physical demands based on the equipment and project being implemented within the program.

The noise level may vary depending upon the daily activities within the work environment, such as the number of people and equipment in the Uplands Microelectronics Academy classroom and lab. Off-site visits to manufacturing facilities will occur and the noise level of those environments will vary. Personal protective devices to protect hearing may be necessary. The employee must constantly work to meet deadlines and build partnerships for the Uplands Microelectronics Academy.
