ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER
The Loomis Chaffee School seeks a full-time certified, energetic, and knowledgeable Athletic Trainer to become one of a team of athletic trainers in our athletic program. As a member of the athletic department and health care team, the Assistant Certified Athletic Trainer will assist the sports medicine team in the planning, organization, direction, and execution of programs associated with the care and prevention of orthopedic-related injuries and managing other injuries and illnesses that impact on student’s health and wellness. Primary duties include supporting the school through the school year, including some school vacations and pre-season.
Key Accountabilities
- Assist in establishing and enforcing departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Provide education and serve as a student resource on injury/illness prevention and wellness.
- Responsible for evaluating, treating, and rehabilitating all orthopedic injuries.
- Provides immediate emergency care during times of physical activity, including being present at interscholastic events as scheduled by the Head Athletic Trainer.
- Provide respectful communication, within limits of confidentiality, on student health matters between coaches, parents, and health care providers.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of Athletic Training Center activities and pertinent medical data.
- Assist in administering and reviewing our work with concussions and a concussion system.
- Responsible for implementation and practice of health and safety best practices.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NFHS, NCAA, and NEPSAC should be maintained, reviewed, and practiced to ensure compliance relative to those applicable duties.

Education/Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred.
- BOC certified and possess CT state Athletic Training licensure, registration, or ability to attain before August 2025.
- American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid, instructor certified preferred.
- Preferred Lifeguard certification and Lifeguard Instruction certification.
Experience
- Ideally, 5-10 years of experience working with student-athletes, college or high school athletic training position preferred.
- Proficiency with all Microsoft applications, including Excel and merge applications, as well as athletic training software.
Physical Requirements
Work is medium demand. Lifting upward of 100 lbs. with frequent lifting and carrying objects. Medium strength is required to position student-athletes for examination. May assist athletes as needed. Must be able to work in all weather conditions—ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Skills & Knowledge
- Thorough knowledge of professional athletic training principles, methods and procedures; anatomy and physiology applicable to assigned duties; and medical supplies and equipment used in athletic training practice.
• Ability to analyze emergency situations accurately and take prompt action. • Working knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to certified athletic training.
- Ability to use computer-based software including email, computerized maintenance management system, electronic medical record programs, smartphone/mobile devices, and MS Office.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships. • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills and the ability to follow directions.
