Loomis Chaffee Summer Program is seeking a Dean for our Summer School Program.
The Best Self & Common Good (BSCG) Dean reports to the Director of Summer Programs and is responsible for all aspects of planning and implementing the Best Self & Common Good Curriculums for the Loomis Chaffee Summer Program’s (LCSP) Enrichment Program. The role includes weekly planning sessions and other preparation from April 1, 2025 until the start of faculty orientation on June 26, 20025; for the duration of the LCSP’s Enrichment Program, June 29 to July 26, this person will live on campus, participate on the LCSP’s senior administrative team, and lead all aspects of the LCSP’s Best Self Curriculum (BSC) for approximately 120 students and 35 faculty and interns. In addition, this person will be responsible for teaching the Common Good Leadership course for at most 15 students.
Expectations
Pre-Program: Spring (April 1, 2025 to June 26, 2025)
- Best Self Journal - Partner with the LCSP Director, Assistant Directors and Writing Curriculum Lead to develop the BSC portion of the 2025 version of this document.
- Common Good Leadership Curriculum – Refine and, as necessary, revise the CGL curriculum
- Pre-Program Survey - This survey is designed to convey a sense of enthusiasm, welcoming, and belonging to all incoming participants prior to arrival.
o Review and edit the existing survey, and then work with the LCSP Assistant Director to send the survey to incoming participants.
o Review the survey responses and determine how best to get relevant participant information to the faculty and interns who will work most closely with each student.
During the Program: June 29 to July 26
- Lead a BSCG session for faculty and interns during orientation.
- Prepare advisors/interns for group activities and discussions for four advising sessions per week.
- Collaborate with the advisory group presenters for one BSC community meeting per week (typically Friday).
- Facilitate separate student and faculty focus groups designed to solicit feedback on the topic of belonging in LCSP community.
- Participate as a member of the LCSP Senior Administrative Team, including one scheduled meeting per week plus others as deemed necessary by the Director of Summer Programs.
- Collaborate with the Student Activities Coordinator to align weekend activities with the goals of the BSC.
- Teach one section of the Common Good Leadership class.
- Revise and administer the final program survey with the goal evaluating the efficacy of the BSC.
Post-Program: By mid-September
Present observations, program survey results, and recommendations related to the ongoing development of the BSC to the Director of Summer Programs and the LCSP Assistant Directors.
- Persons in this role may earn stipend(s) for additional LCSP duties, if applicable.
