CERTIFICATED POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Certificated Substitute Teacher

Description of Position: This position is as a Certificated Substitute Teacher. Hours may vary
depending on scheduling needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Prepare instructional materials and teach lessons as designed and directed by the teacher, or as
planned in collaboration with classroom teachers or other staff.
2. Instruct students in a variety of program learning activities as initiated by the classroom teacher.
3. Monitor student behavior in the classroom and assist with classroom teacher’s classroom management
system and/or as specified on a student’s IEP. Model appropriate behaviors and create a supportive
environment to enhance learning, self-image, attitudes and social skills.
4. Perform related duties, as assigned.
5. Demonstrated personal safety and ability to promote safety in the workplace, including abstinence
from the influence of alcohol or other illicit substances while on the job.
Minimum Competencies Required:
- Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement(s).
- Evidence of strong instruction and adherence to applicable “best practices” of learning and
instruction.
- Demonstrated interest, commitment, and ability to challenge students at all levels.
- Knowledge and understanding of learning and teaching philosophy and the developmental needs
of students.
- Successful experience working with a wide range of student abilities, both academically and

- Knowledge of and ability to implement the appropriate Washington State Essential Academic
Learning Requirements and Grade Level Expectations.
- Ability to use assessment to inform instruction.
- Understanding of the unique needs and opportunities presented by creative and independent
minded students.
- Evidence of diversified and extensive personal reading and writing background and practice,
- Expertise or training in science education is desired.
- Evidence of ability to evoke passion and rigor in students in the content and subject areas
presented, required.
