What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Health Nurse position at Lorain County Public Health?
Lorain County Public Health is seeing to hire a Registered Nurse (RN) to function as a public health nurse. This is a duel position that has duties within both the Vaccine Program and the School Health Program. The RN will function within the scope of nursing under the direction of the Director of Community Health and the Vaccine Nursing Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES – Vaccine Program
- Safely administer age-appropriate vaccines according to current recommended guidelines, schedules and standing medical orders to clients from birth through adulthood.
- Provide accurate vaccine information and counseling to clients and families in a culturally appropriate manner.
- Maintain accurate vaccine inventory and electronic vaccine administration records.
- Perform TB skin testing and reading and refer clients according to TB protocols
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES – School Health Program
- Work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team to coordinate the delivery of school health services to staff and students within a school district
- Collaborate with physicians, parents, and school staff to develop plans of care for students with chronic disease and special needs
- Ensure compliance with required school immunizations, screenings, and State reporting.
- Maintain accurate student health records, ensuring strict compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, including HIPPA and FERPA
- Delegate and train unlicensed school personnel as needed
- Collect school health data to use for evaluation and planning.
- Identify health issues that need addressed and contribute to the improvement of policies, programs and services
- Promote wellness initiatives that improve health and school performance
- Other Public Health nurse duties as assigned

PREFERRED QUALIFCATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with three (3) years of nursing experience preferred.
Must have clear oral and written communication skills, Spanish speaking preferred.
Must have competent computer skills and be able to work in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google suite (calendar, docs, sheets, Gmail, etc.) and other electronic medical documentation systems.
Must be able to perform duties in a fast-paced clinic setting, follow physician’s orders, and nursing care plans. Must be able to prioritize activities and needs, follow timelines and meet work deadlines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a licensed Registered Nurse pursuant to Section 4723.13 of the Ohio Revised Code. Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license with ongoing proof of auto insurance and be able to travel with reliable transportation. Current CPR certification is required. Must have proof of and maintain up-to-date vaccinations for healthcare providers or be in the process of completing.
WORK SCHEDULE
This is a full-time (40 hours/5 days per week) position with usual hours M-F 8:00 am -4:30 pm with occasional evenings and weekends.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS: Must be able to wear PPE, including a face mask and face shield, when required. Be able to lift objects of weight up to forty (40) pounds. May encounter unsanitary working conditions. Requires travel.
COMPENSATION: $30.34 – 38.71/hr
