Reports to: Director, Environmental Health & Safety

Flex Work Eligible! This position qualifies for the Flexible Work Policy. Employees receive 75 workdays annually to work remote! The initial amount of days is prorated for the first year based on start date. 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

The Manager of EHS- Field Safety (EHS&S) is responsible for overseeing and leading the Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHS&S) programs within the North American Organization. This includes managing a team of professionals, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, implementing best safety and environmental practices, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The Manager will work closely with senior leadership, department heads, and external stakeholders to maintain a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainability.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the EH&S team, ensuring clarity of roles, responsibilities, and goals.
  • Provide guidance and support to the team in implementing safety programs, conducting audits, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Facilitate team development by identifying training needs and fostering a collaborative environment for knowledge sharing and professional growth.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the organization's strategy and initiatives in alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Ensure that all programs and policies are effectively executed, addressing risk management, regulatory compliance, and sustainability.
  • Monitor and analyze performance metrics and reports to assess the effectiveness of safety and environmental programs and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Oversee the facility’s compliance with local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations, ensuring all permits, licenses, and documentation are up to date.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, external auditors, and stakeholders to ensure continuous compliance.
  • Act as the key point of contact for related regulatory inspections, audits, and reporting
  • Oversee incident management processes, including investigations of workplace accidents, near misses, and environmental incidents. Ensure that corrective actions are taken and lessons learned are communicated across the organization.
  • Collaborate with team members to conduct risk assessments, identify hazards, and implement mitigation measures to reduce workplace injuries and environmental risks.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans for a variety of scenarios and ensure that all employees are trained and equipped to respond effectively.
  • Ensure the team provides regular, comprehensive safety training for all employees, covering topics such as hazardous material handling, machine safety, emergency procedures, and environmental stewardship.
  • Ensure ongoing education and skill development for the team, staying current with evolving regulations, industry trends, and best practices.
  • Lead sustainability initiatives to reduce the organization’s environmental footprint, promoting energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation, and the use of sustainable materials.
  • Oversee the collection and reporting of environmental data, prepare sustainability reports and ensuring that performance targets are met.
  • Engage with senior leadership to set goals for reducing the organization’s carbon footprint and implementing green technologies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelors degree Environmental Sciences. Occupational Health and Safety, or Associated field.

Experience: 5 years of related environmental, health and safety experience in maintenance of way or rolling stock industry.

Licenses/Certifications: Most hold or obtain within 90 days of employment and be able to continue to maintain the following certifications:

  • First Aid & CPR w/AED
  • Railroad Safety training and certifications
  • OSHA 30 for General Industry

*Or a combination of the above educational and experience may be used to obtain the total 9 years of education/experience needed to qualify for this position

  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, FRA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and compliance tracking systems
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with various departments.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport allowing to travel to all 50 states of the United states of America, Canada and Mexico

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master’s degree in EHS or Business Administration

Licenses/Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

  • May lift up to 30 lbs. occasionally
  • 75% or more travel including international
  • Can tolerate variable and sometimes challenging conditions during visits or inspections of company equipment in a railroad environment.

Loram determines compensation based on factors such as skills, competencies, education, and/or experience. Certain positions may be eligible for an annual bonus and paid time off in addition to base compensation. 

Starting pay for the position is between $94,539. - $118,174.
