Job Title: VP, Human Resources and Safety

Reports to: President and CEO

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

The S/VP Human Resources and Safety will build and drive the global human capital strategy to align with the company’s goals, fostering a high-performance culture while delivering bottom-line results in close collaboration with the CEO. This role will focus on transformational leadership, talent development/succession, total rewards, HRIS, learning and development and enhancing organizational effectiveness.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS:

Strategic and Functional

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive HR strategy that aligns with the company’s business objectives and enhances overall organizational performance, while collaborating deeply with executive leadership in identifying and prioritizing people initiatives that drive business results.
  • Identify and lead strategic initiatives and employment practices to position Loram as a progressive and innovative company. Position Loram to be viewed as an employer of choice, operating with a safety excellence mindset. Know how to drive various labor, benefits and compensation strategies on the business and act accordingly to maximize impact on the business.
  • Build and sustain organizational capabilities to deliver best in class leaders that embody values-based leadership, foster workforce engagement and drive alignment at all levels of the organization.
  • Frame out and lead the areas of total rewards, performance management, training, recruiting, human capital management systems to enhance employee productivity and engagement.
  • Lead the talent development strategies both in house and through 3rd parties to deliver business objectives. Continue to refresh organizational design, and succession planning processes to ensure a deep bench for key positions throughout the company.
  • Assess, design and deliver progressive and proactive total rewards programs to provide motivation and incentives for Loram value creation goals both short and long term.
  • Develop top level industry relationships through active participation in industry organizations and maintain working knowledge in the areas of railroad safety, operations, legal, and regulatory trends to maintain strong interdependent partnerships with all lines of business so the organization operates with the highest level of ownership in creating a culture to minimize any risks.

Leadership and Talent Development

  • Develop a strong discipline of role clarity by holding self and leaders accountable for performance, collaboration with the global team, establishing and maintaining an inclusive and a diverse culture to provide a positive employee experience and proactive performance management based on feedback, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and navigate change underpinned by a strong organizational communication capability
  • Advocate for appropriate academic, technical, and leadership training/development opportunities at all levels.
  • Recruit and develop teams with an appropriate mix of experience, capabilities, and skills to consistently meet company goals and departmental initiatives by the most efficient means possible.
  • Drive decisions grounded in key analytics for the function and in collaboration with other senior team leaders to measure the impact of progress and results.
  • Take a leadership role in Loram’s community commitment.

Financial

  • Responsible for managing departmental expense budgets of approximately $10M and company benefits programs annually. Leads a team of approximately 40 people.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related field

Experience: 15 years’ progressive human resources management experience with business partner focus and experience in Senior leadership roles. Experience overseeing core HR processes, including but not limited to employee relations, recruitment, talent management, organizational planning, total rewards, safety

Licenses/Certifications: Obtain and Maintain railroad safety training and certifications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Psychology, or related field

Licenses/Certifications: SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP, Lean Six Sigma

  • May lift to 30 lbs. occasionally
  • 25% or more travel including international
  • Can tolerate variable and sometimes challenging conditions during visits or inspections of company equipment in a railroad environment
