Summary
Under general supervision, the Public Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff within the hospital premises. This role involves monitoring and patrolling the facility to prevent and respond to incidents, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and procedures, and providing exceptional customer service to all individuals on site. In addition, under direct supervision, assists in the vehicular transportation of elderly and handicapped patients to and from Loretto Hospital or other designated locations.
Key responsibilities include monitoring surveillance systems, conducting regular safety inspections, controlling traffic inside and outside buildings, performing related public safety duties as assigned and addressing any security concerns or emergencies promptly and effectively. The Public Safety Officer will collaborate with hospital staff and law enforcement as needed to resolve conflicts and maintain order. Strong communication skills, a keen sense of observation, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential for success in this position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
- Current CPR and CPI certifications are required.
- Possession of a valid "PERC" Card preferred
- One or more years of security guard/officer training or experience preferred.
- Must have full working knowledge of security principles and practices.
- Full working knowledge of hospital safety procedures preferred
- Basic knowledge of body mechanics and transportation procedures preferred
- Full working knowledge of city boundaries and locations preferred
- Excellent communication skills are imperative.
