Job Title: Senior Tax Accountant
Location: Sugar Land, TX- Hybrid
Job Type: Contract
About the Role: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the preparation and timely filing of complex multi-state sales and use tax returns, along with related jurisdictional communications and assistance with Vertex ongoing maintenance. This role also involves reconciling general ledger sales and use tax accounts, assisting with audits, and handling special tax projects.
Essential Duties:
Accurate and timely monthly preparation of complex sales and use tax returns.
Prepare account reconciliations of the sales/use tax accounts.
Respond promptly to all DOR and jurisdictional inquiries.
Assist with Vertex taxability matrix maintenance and updates.
Draft communications to internal and external customers regarding the sales/use tax treatment on a variety of business transactions for sales and purchases.
Assist with the upkeep of the automated sales tax exemption certificate process.
Multi-task and prioritize information in a timely manner.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
Minimum of four (4) years of multi-state sales and use tax experience.
Experience with Vertex sales and use tax preparation software is required.
Vertex O Series experience is a plus.
Knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax law.
Experience researching multi-state tax issues.
Experience working with state and local jurisdiction revenue agencies.
Understanding of legal entity reporting structures.
Proficient with MS Office Suite 2007 or higher (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access).
Knowledge of Excel PivotTables and VLOOKUPs is a plus.
Experience with JD Edwards or other ERP systems is preferred.
