Role : GIS Developer

Location : 1401 E. Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia 23219

5 days per week in the office for the first few weeks for training and then 3 days per week in office.

Job Description :

VDOT TMPD seeks a junior Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist / Technician to assist the TMPD Planning Data Solutions team in maintaining in-house planning web tool and providing GIS support to transportation planning staff.

The Transportation & Mobility Planning Division (TMPD) manages and administers the Pathways for Planning System (P4P). P4P is a GIS planning tool for maintaining data and information concerning planning activities including the Federal Functional Classification, National Highway System, Census urban area, future needs assessments, and other planning-associated layers. The system features data that includes : roadway inventory, traffic projections, and capacity analysis.

Job Requirements :

• Collect, manage, and analyze geospatial data from various sources.
• Assist in the creation of detailed maps, charts, and reports using GIS software.
• Perform geospatial data cleaning, manipulation, and quality control to ensure data accuracy.
• Support the integration of spatial data with other datasets to provide insights for projects.
• Evaluate data, tools, and web platforms for quality assurance and to identify errors and improvements
• Maintain and update GIS databases and documentation.
• Collaborate with other departments to provide GIS-related technical support and training as needed.
• Research and stay updated on GIS tools, technologies, and best practices.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other developers to define and execute solutions for geospatial data visualization and analysis
