SUMMARY

The role of the IT Technician Site Tech is to provide a single point of contact for users at one or multiple work sites to receive support and maintenance within the district’s computing environment. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all computer and peripheral hardware and software to ensure optimal computer performance. The Site Tech will also troubleshoot problem areas (in person, by telephone, via e-mail, or by using a remote support tool) in a timely and accurate fashion, and give in-person, hands-on help to the user. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future hardware, software and district technology system needs
  • Serve effectively on the site technology committee
  • Conduct research on and make recommendations for hardware and software products in support of procurement and development efforts
  • Assist and/or train other site techs to meet district and site technology system needs.
  • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance
  • Implement site and district technology goals, process and objectives
  • Work well with others and participate fully in a team-oriented environment
  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and set up computers and related hardware and software to deliver required service levels
  • Assess the need for and implement performance upgrades to computers, including the installation of CPUs, I/O and NIC cards, hard disks, ribbon cables, hard drives, RAM, memory chips, and CDs
  • Perform hands-on fixes at the computer level, including troubleshooting hardware and software, installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implementing file backups, and configuring systems and applications. Test fixes to ensure problem has been adequately resolved
  • Access software updates, drivers, knowledge bases, and FAQ resources on the Internet to aid in problem resolution
  • Install and update anti-virus and anti-spyware software
  • Document instances of computer and related hardware or component failure, vendor recalls, repair, installation, and removal using the district’s work order system in collaboration with the district’s hardware technician. Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze trends for ways to prevent future problems
  • Receive and respond to incoming calls, pages, emails, and help desk ticketing system e-mails regarding computing environment problems
  • Prioritize and schedule problem resolution. Escalate problems to district technology staff. Provide timely response to users about the status of escalated problems. Perform post-resolution follow-up with users
  • Verify that physical and wireless network connections are in proper working order. Escalate network connection problems to district technology staff
  • Design, install, administer, and optimize site servers and related components. This includes ensuring the availability of client/server applications, configuring all new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment
  • Assist district technology staff in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of the site and district data centers
  • Perform file sharing system configuration and management; define and perform server backups and recovery procedures
  • Plan and implement computer and server upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches/updates
  • Performing preventative maintenance, including checking and cleaning of computers, printers, and peripherals
  • Maintain an inventory of all computing equipment and peripherals using the district IT inventory system. Maintain logs of installed software packages to ensure license count compliance
  • Collaborate with third-party support and computer and peripheral equipment vendors.
  • Provide initial training in computer systems and applications including back up procedures, e-mail, Internet, and other systems to staff
  • Document and report equipment abuse to the site administrator and to the technology coordinator

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to read and write English
  • Perform mathematical calculations as required for the job
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from employees
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Possession of a valid State of New Mexico Driver’s License
  • Ability to secure required District and State certifications or licenses as requested

 EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE: 

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Preferred training or college course work that would lead to an information technology (IT) industry certification or degree

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret job related materials to perform the required duties
  • Ability to communicate logically and coherently with co-workers, staff and District personnel

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical skills and interpret mathematical requirements as they pertain to the position

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit, walk and stand; have manual and finger dexterity; stoop, and talk or hear.  The employee may be required to climb stairs, heights and ladders.  The employee is occasionally required to crawl, reach above shoulder level, crouch, kneel, balance, push/pull, and carry.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds with the assistance of another person or appropriate equipment.

$21.74 Starting Hourly Rate

1.00 FTE- 8 hour shift, 40 hour week

249 work contract day- July 1 to June 30

9 paid Holidays, and 11 non contract work days
