Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a skilled professional to join our Engineering Services (ES) Division as a Fire Protection Nuclear Facilities Engineer. The Engineering Services - Fire Protection Engineering (ES-FPE) Group is the Laboratory's central fire protection engineering and program support entity, responsible for providing institutional technical direction and support for the Lab's nuclear and nonnuclear facilities and programs. This position will be filled at the Nuclear Facilities Engineer 4 level.
Fire Protection Nuclear Facilities Engineer 4 ($146,800 - $254,700)
In this role, you will be expected to perform one or more of the following duties :
- Provide fire protection and life safety subject matter expert (SME) technical support to the laboratory facility management and programmatic organizations
- Prepare and maintain fire hazard analyses and related documentation for complex laboratory, radiological, and nuclear facilities
- Construct project support, design plan review, submittals and test plan review and approval
- Act as lab-wide fire safety and fire protection operations SME support
- Support wildland fire risk reduction initiative
- Perform facility fire protection and life safety system assessments
- Perform fire protection and life safety system commissioning, periodic testing, and maintenance oversight
- Prepare equivalencies and exemptions, development of equivalencies and exemptions to DOE Directives, building and NFPA codes
- Prepare technical reviews of proposed new activities for LANL fire protection program adherence

Minimum Job Requirements :
Education / Experience : Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 12 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. A degree in Fire Protection Engineering or an advanced engineering / technical degree is highly desirable.

Work Location : The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite / partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position Commitment : Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Incentive Compensation Program : Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
