What You Will Do
The Integrated Weapons Experiments (J) Division, Nevada Operations (J-NV) Group is looking for an engineer to support multiple programs involving the design, fielding, and execution of dynamic experiments with high quality requirements. This will include the generation of requirements with stakeholder input, maintaining configuration, document, and records management, as well as delivering data as defined by the requirements. This position will work closely with multiple LANL organizations to ensure the high level of rigor and quality required by these programs, and support J-NV's mission deliverables by guiding teams in the field.
The position will be physically located in Nevada at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) and will directly support a Weapon Surveillance program and the Subcritical Experiment (SCE) program. This position will require occasional travel and requires the candidate to obtain and maintain a Q-clearance as well as mandatory participation in LANL's Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in writing, preparing, and interpreting requirements as well as drawings and technical reports.
- Develop and maintain quality documentation (checklists, procedures, integrated work documents, test reports, etc.) in accordance with LANL document control and records management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the application of quality assurance practices defined in NAP 24A, Weapons Quality Policy, such as configuration management, risk management, and non-conformance reporting.
- Experience with activity level operations such as walkdowns, practices, and proficiency demonstrations.
- Thorough knowledge of professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, and procedures, as demonstrated by experience researching, designing, analyzing, testing, verifying, and validating engineering solutions.
- Ability to obtain DOE Q Clearance.
Desired Qualifications:
- Understanding of LANL ScoR principles utilizing risk identification, hazard analysis, integrated work documents, and lessons learned. Additionally, understanding of the conduct of operations at other facilities within the DOE weapons enterprise.
- Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear industry policies regarding safety-basis and quality assurance.
- Thorough knowledge and experience in one or more of the following engineering disciplines: mechanical; materials science; chemical; metallurgical, industrial, systems or other R&D engineering fields.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in designing; planning; and executing research and development projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in implementing Laboratory or similar industry objectives and other statements of policy, practice, and/or procedure.
- Graduate degree preferred.
- Active DOE Q Clearance.

Where You Will Work
This position is located at the Nevada National Security Site and requires living in the Las Vegas, Nevada area.
- Located This position is located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) and is located about 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, NV. Employees can take a commuter bus, carpool, or drive to work locations. Once at the work location, experiment sites can be an additional 30 to 50 miles. Employees must factor in an extra 1 to 1 ½ hours commute each way to the 10-hour workday (employees work a 4-day/10- hour day schedule).
- Work at the NNSS usually results in long days that start at sunup and end late in the day. Work locations can be 1000 feet underground or in the middle of the desert. Temperatures can vary from below freezing to above 100 degrees.
- This position requires periodic travel from Las Vegas, NV to Los Alamos, NM for training and project-specific requirements.
