As a Waste Management Coordinator, the selected candidate will be responsible for providing a turnkey customer focused approach to waste management to include characterization, processing, packaging, storage, and disposal of solid and liquid RCRA hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, biological waste, New Mexico Special Waste, Universal Waste, PCB Waste and Radioactive Waste.
Through specialized skills, knowledge and understanding of waste operations, WMCs provide cradle to grave operational control and oversight that ensures compliance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Department of Energy (DOE) 435.1, Radioactive Waste Management, and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, that allows Laboratories facility and field operations to focus on their mission critical work. The WMC is critical to the development of the organization's goals and objectives while working closely with first-line managers, customers, and peers to resolve wide-ranging challenges in creative ways while maintaining safety, security, and compliance requirements.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated commitment to implementing safety, security, environment and quality objectives and requirements
- Practical work experience with a laboratory or R&D plant/facility that generated multiple waste types
- Expert-level knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to the handling and management of solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes
- Advanced ability to effectively communicate, interact, and collaborate with internal customers as well as with Federal, State, and local agencies
- Expert-level experience and training per DOT 49 CFR as a Basic Hazardous Materials Shipper and Basic Radioactive Materials Shipper or Certified per DOT 49 CFR as an Advanced Hazardous Materials Shipper and Advanced Radioactive Materials Shipper or Certified per DOT 49 CFR as an Advanced Mixed Waste Shipper
- Expert-level knowledge of and experience with handling, characterizing, packaging, and/or transporting solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes
- Expert-level knowledge and experience in managing satellite accumulation areas (SAAs), central accumulation areas (CAAs), PCB storage areas, universal waste (UW) areas, and radioactive staging/storage areas including knowledge of chemical storage, segregation, and handling
- Expert-level experience and knowledge communicating major elements of waste management processes, policies, and procedures to technical and non-technical personnel
Desired Qualifications:
- Successful experience in coordinating cradle to grave management and disposition of non-hazardous, hazardous, chemical, and radioactive wastes
- Expert-level knowledge of LANL's organizational structure, technical areas, and facilities
- Experience and expert-level knowledge of LANL's waste management policies, practices, and procedures
- Current or previous qualification as a waste professional in a Department of Energy facility
- Chemical lab packing experience
- Active or transferable L/Q clearance
- Ability to obtain/maintain HRP clearance
- General physical mobility includes but is not limited to: sitting, standing walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, twisting the trunk or back, balancing
- Specific physical mobility includes but is not limited to: applying torque with hands or arms, gripping with the hands, pressing/pulling/pushing with the arms, reaching overhead/horizontally/downward, typing or keyboarding, use of both hands, use of both arms, use of both legs, use of both feet
- Weight handling requirements include but are not limited to: carrying 30 pounds, lifting 30 pounds
- General work environment may include but is not limited to: outdoors, working alone, working extended shifts, operation of motor vehicles, operation of specialized heavy equipment (i.e. forklift),
- R&D laboratory settings with corresponding chemicals and hazards including: toxic chemicals, irritant chemicals, dusts or powders, sprays, mists, or vapors, fumes, and carcinogens. Requires the use of PPE such as head protection, eye protection, face shields, hearing protection, gloves, and safety shoes.
