Substitute Teacher-
This is a non-contract position with No Insurance Benefits or representation from the Union.
Current Hourly Rates:
Individuals with an active teaching license $30.00 hour
Individuals with an active substitute teaching license $23.00 hour
In lieu of the classroom teacher, the substitute teacher directs program of study, creates classroom environment conducive to learning, guides learning process toward curriculum goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons/units/projects and communicates these to students, supports rules of classroom behavior and procedures, maintains classroom order, attends staff meetings (if applicable), maintains accurate/complete/correct records as required.
Los Alamos Public Schools will assist you in the Licensure and Fingerprint Background Check process mentioned below:
- Must possess an active New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) Substitute Teaching License and Educational Assistant License, fee you will pay is $50 by credit/debit card if you apply for them within the same Online Licensure Application or $50 each license if you apply for them separately.
- Must complete a Fingerprint Background Check for the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED), fee you will pay is $59 by credit/debit card.
Individuals applying to substitute will be required to complete six hours total of observations at the elementary school, middle school and high school as well as a paid orientation session at the beginning of the school year.
