Summary
This new position will share teaching, planning, administrative & clerical responsibilities with the two current orchestra teachers at the elementary (4 - 6th), middle school (7 - 8th) and high school (9 - 12th) levels. Occasional extracurricular activities (evening performances, Honor Orchestra hosting duties, trip planning, trip attendance, etc) connected to the classes will require some beyond contractual time attendance.
Composed of highly active ensembles, LAPS Orchestras regularly attend regional events, consistently receiving excellent and superior ratings and our students participate annually in honor orchestras and All-State ensembles. LAPS has twice in the last five years been honored with the NMMEA "District of Distinction" award as recognition for the support the music programs receive. Seeking a candidate who will motivate and develop an interest in and appreciation for the art of music. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; see and read a computer screen and printer material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech in normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; and to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Effectively plan and conduct rehearsals, sectionals, and performances
- Collaborate with other members of the band and music teams, administration, students, parents, and the community
- Build positive rapport with students, parents, administrators, and colleagues
- Demonstrate professional skills such as punctuality, organization, effective communication and cooperation
- Instruct students on proper care and use of equipment
- Maintain records on student performance
- Provides individual, small group, and large group instruction and adapts curriculum to meet the needs of students with varying abilities
- Observe and evaluate student's work to determine student progress or to make suggestions for improvement.
- May direct planning and supervision of student contests and arranging of student performances
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and creates a safe, orderly, and effective environment for learning during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances
- Demonstrates techniques to students in music concepts and playing skill
- B.A. degree in Music Education, or a related field
- Cellist with music and recording technology background are preferred but not required
- Teaching License from the New Mexico Public Education Department
- Or the commitment to attaining an alternative license within 2 years of hire
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret job-related materials to perform the required duties
- Ability to communicate logically and coherently with co-workers, staff, and District personnel
