SUMMARY:
Promotes science-based core literacy instruction to ensure that 100% of LAPS
students are proficient readers and writers. Collaborates with teachers and
principals to establish and monitor literacy goals that prevent reading difficulties.
Provides targeted or intensive literacy instruction to identified students who
require reading intervention and support.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with appropriate New Mexico licensure. Must possess an active Level 2 or Level 3 New Mexico Elementary K-8 teaching license and be eligible for NM Reading Endorsement.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Uses district approved core curriculum and its remediation components.
2. Collaborates with the building principal in analyzing reading data and
prioritizing intervention needs across the building.
3. Attends and participates in district-level Literacy Team meetings.
4. Adheres to LAPS guidelines on structured literacy practices and materials.
5. Leads and coordinates literacy instruction across all grades at the building
level.
6. Supports teachers in their use of beginning of the year screening tools and
curriculum assessments.
7. Demonstrates data-driven instruction that incorporates feedback from
standardized formative, interim, summative and curriculum-based
assessments.
8. Uses district-adopted diagnostic data tools to target and progress monitor
students across specific skill area deficits.
9. Demonstrates teaching practices that are explicit, sequential, cumulative, and
multisensory in targeting skill deficits in reading, spelling, and writing.
10. Uses progress monitoring data to make appropriate adjustments to
interventions provided to all students.
11. Serves as the building coordinator for district-adopted site-based reading
remediation programing (ie: Parallel Universe).
12. Coaches staff in the implementation of structured literacy instruction.
13. Supports teacher communication with families regarding student needs for
intervention and progress toward reading proficiency.
14. Provides data and recommendations to all school teams when considering
interventions and/or a possible referral for an educational evaluation.
15. Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move
about as needed in a fast pace, high-intensity work environment.
1.00 FTE-8 hour shift, 40 hour week
195 work contract- July 25, 2024 to May 30, 2025
