Their duties include identifying the individual needs of their students, designing and providing specially designed instruction to meet their unique needs, creating a supportive and effective learning environment and ensuring their students have the resources they need to succeed. This involves individually planned and systematically monitored instruction, adapted equipment and materials, and accessible settings.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Plan for the effective instruction and intervention for students on IEPs;
- Participate in ongoing training in positive behavior supports, behavior de-escalation procedures, and other specialized instructional strategies, as needed;
- Train and coordinate Educational Assistants (EAs) to support students in meeting their IEP goals, both in special education and general education settings;
- Facilitate and support inclusion opportunities for students;
- Administer ongoing progress monitoring, strategic monitoring and benchmark systems;
- Schedule, prepare for, and attend Team meetings for caseload students;
- Schedule and write annual IEPs, including present levels of performance and quarterly progress towards goals;
- Collaborate with general education staff with respect to appropriate accommodations and modifications;
- Provide ongoing positive communication with parents;
- Collect and analyze student data against IEP goals;
- Consult effectively with general education teachers and specialists to support students in inclusive settings
- Must possess an active New Mexico Public Education Department Special Education K-12 teaching license.
- At the secondary level, specific content area endorsements may be required based on the assignment.
- Must possess New Mexico Public Education Department Special Education K-12 License
- Bachelor's and/or Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience and/or training in strategies to support students with disabilities and in complying with special education procedures.
