What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation/Volunteer Coordinator position at Los Alamos Retired & Senior Organization?
Summary: Under the supervision of the Executive Director, this position serves two primary responsibilities. As the Volunteer Coordinator, the coordinator's primary responsibility is to recruit, manage, maintain, and grow the LARSO Volunteer program. As the Transportation Coordinator, their primary responsibilities are to oversee transportation services, home-delivered meal services, and leisure/educational trips outside of Los Alamos County for qualified Los Alamos County residents. There is an overlap in that the positions also include overseeing the Volunteer Rides program.
This position works out of and oversees the White Rock Senior Activity Center. The Volunteer/Transportation Coordinator works closely with all departments within the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Volunteer
- Supervise Volunteer Assistant.
- Coordinate all volunteers and volunteer opportunities at both senior activity centers.
- Work with the Marketing and Program Coordinator
- Ensure all activity leaders have signed Volunteer Registration (bridge, bingo, exercise classes). These classes are taught/led by unpaid community members/volunteers.
- Market volunteer opportunities.
- Work with the Non-Metro Area Agency on Aging and the Transportation Coordinator to organize volunteers for the Volunteer Rides program.
- Communicate with community volunteers for hours and update volunteer information/hours.
- Staff senior center front desks if no volunteer is available.
- Provide training to all new volunteers.
- White Rock-specific duties
- Open and close the building daily.
- Oversee accounting for donations received by the WRSC
- Collect and send to Betty Ehart daily deposits and lunch lists for the congregate meal program.
- Input reservations into MSC for congregate meal program and provide information to kitchen staff.
- Attend monthly facility walk-throughs with County staff. Communicate any facility issues to the Executive Director.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Transportation
- Supervise Transportation Assistant and drivers.
- Prioritize and schedule daily trips.
- Maintain communication with drivers and clients.
- Ensure protocol is followed for home-delivered meal clients, including follow-up if the client does not answer the door.
- Coordinate with Atomic City Transit to avoid duplication of services.
- In collaboration with the Marketing and Program Coordinator, plan & organize monthly trips, including scheduling drivers and writing transportation column for monthly newsletter.
- Maintain log of rides and coordinate monthly with Business Manager for billing.
- Schedule drivers daily with attention to workload.
- Enter Transportation data into “My Senior Center”.
- Ensure vehicles are up to date with maintenance and have daily safety inspections.
- Arrange for a loaner vehicle with Los Alamos County Fleet while repairs/maintenance are done.
- Maintain records as needed.
- Create and provide training for drivers in compliance with AAA requirements.
- Work with the Executive Director to provide a Defensive Driving course for drivers.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
White Rock-specific duties

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or five years of like work experience.
NM Driver's License.
Supervisory Experience.
Experience working in an office environment and working with seniors is preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 36 – 40 per week
