INTRODUCTION :

Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC) is seeking nurses interested in educating the next generation of nurses. If that is you, then we urge you to join our team.

Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) announces an opening for a probationary, tenure-track Nursing Instructor, Medical Surgical Emphasis at LATTC beginning in the Fall 2025.

LATTC is a two-year community college located in downtown Los Angeles. Each semester, the college serves more than 13,000 students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. We serve a culturally diverse community in a dynamic urban setting with the purpose of supporting students in achieving associate of arts degrees, general education, skill certificates, and / or personal development.

LATTC provides the highest quality of transfer and workforce education courses, along with superior adult education, basic skills, and community service programs. JOB DESCRIPTION :

LATTC is seeking dynamic, motivated, and diverse candidates to engage and educate our students. Faculty members are expected to create a learning-centered environment that supports students in fulfilling their educational goals. The position involves curriculum development and evaluation, web-enhanced course development, attendance of department and discipline meetings, professional activities, and college committee work. Instruction may include day, evening, off-campus, and weekend courses.

The ideal candidates will possess current clinical and classroom skills in registered nursing education. Applicants with experience in med / surg nursing are encouraged to apply. Interested individuals who meet the LACCD and CA Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) minimum qualifications with required training and experience in the above nursing specialty area are invited to also apply for the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Master's degree in Nursing; OR
Bachelor's degree in Nursing AND Master's in Health Education or Health Science; OR the equivalent OR the minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher.
The minimum qualifications as set by the California Board of Registered Nursing require :

a) At least one year of experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care within the last five years, which can be met by :

b) One (1) year's continuous full time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in med / surg; or One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in med / surg or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency and completion of at least one year of experience teaching courses related to med / surg or a course which includes practice in teaching nursing.

c) A current California registered nursing (RN) license.

d) Demonstrate evidence of sensitivity to and understanding culturally diverse academic, socio-economic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT - COVID 19 VACCINATION :

Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated and complete a baseline test or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS :

A background in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing is desirable.

Experience teaching in an accredited nursing program or full-time teaching experience in nursing education.

Knowledge of curriculum development, contemporary nursing practice, and national health care standards.

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues as a team member.

Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and sexual orientation, including disabilities, of community college students, faculty, and staff.

Ability to work effectively with students who experience physical or learning disabilities as these variables relate to learning styles and necessary accommodations.

Ability to develop and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with community educational partners.

A commitment to nursing education and to facilitate the student success in the rigorous nursing program and beyond.

Effective communication skills in oral and written English.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : (included but not limited to)

The instructor should be prepared to teach a range of courses within the Nursing discipline, promoting engaging and inclusive educational environments that support student learning. The successful candidates will be culturally responsive in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community members who span a diverse range of languages, nationalities and ethnicities, socio-economic levels, ages, identities, abilities, and educational experiences.

Teach a full load assignment including didactic theory, clinical, and skills laboratory.

Foster critical thinking and diverse teaching modalities.

Supervise and evaluate student performance.

Ability to work flexible hours (schedule may include day, evening, and / or weekend clinical hours).

Willingness to remediate in a nursing specialty, as necessary.

Prepare students to work as entry-level registered nurses.

Function in a manner consistent with the department's philosophy and curricular theme to unify conceptual framework, approved course outlines, and plans of instruction.

Coordinate student learning experiences (community, clinical, classroom, and skills laboratory).

Facilitate student learning through a variety of teaching strategies, current technologies, and interactive learning environments.

Develop, evaluate, and revise courses, exams, and student learning outcomes to meet the needs of the students, college, and the community.

Communicate and work effectively with students, faculty, and health care personnel in affiliating agencies.

Evaluate effectiveness of teaching / learning using evidence-based standards.

Utilize low and high-fidelity simulators as a teaching methodology in skills laboratory.

Incorporate online teaching methodologies that enhance communication and student learning.

Participate in campus committees.

Participate in peer review and evaluation committees.

Demonstrate commitment to excellence in nursing education through continual professional development and educational activities.

Align course content with faculty teaching the same course to assure achievement of student learning outcomes.

Maintain scheduled office hours for student contact.

Assume department duties as assigned by the chairperson, e.g., participate in program review, assist with grant and special funding programs, participate in outside-related activities, revise course outlines, and assist with student advisement.

Evaluate student work using clear, objective criteria based on student learning outcomes and learning objectives.

Communicate and work cooperatively with colleagues within the discipline and on matters regarding course offerings, programs, and department activities.

Utilize the results of learning outcome assessments to improve instruction, support programs, teaching, and student learning.

Working as a team with staff and administrators to create innovative educational experiences and provide an environment where students are partners in learning.

Assisting in program planning, peer evaluation, educational project development and participating in personal and professional growth, as well as professional development activities.

Comply with the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) regulations.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS :

The current starting range is from $74,500 to $138,430 for the ten-month academic year depending on education and experience. The Ph.D. differential is $4,710 per academic year. EVALUATION PROCEDURES :

A college selection committee will review all completed and approved applications received. The committee screening will involve an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications in the areas of training, experience, and personal fitness as determined by the application package and recommendations from referents.

Selected candidates will be invited for an interview following the committee screening.

Based upon the committee recommendation, finalists will interview with the President, who will make the final selection.
