About Our Job
As a member of the Natural Areas and Trails team this position provides support to land management and public access activities on our multi-use trails and trailhead parks; performs light to heavy physical labor as needed; proficient groundskeeping and trade skills utilizing a variety of hand and power tools; janitorial duties as necessary; proper documentation and reporting to ensure clean, safe and usable parks and trails. The position may provide a presence and/or assistance during special events, workdays and other heavy use periods and will provide customer service to trail patrons. This job requires the ability to work independently.
Job Description
Park, Facility, Trail and Open Space Maintenance and Upkeep: Provides general park maintenance and groundskeeping including painting, minor carpentry, use and care of small equipment such as lawn mower, weed eater, edger, leaf blower, pressure washer. Assists with or provides vegetation management including trimming overhanging branches. Monitors, inspects and reports issues for custodial service contractors and general inspections of trails and associated facilities. Provides repairs as needed on amenities such as fencing, stop stations, benches, bike fix-it stations, two- pole shelters, historic structures, trails and parking lots as needed. Provides trash and recycling pick-up and proper disposal and janitorial duties as needed. Assists with treating nuisance and invasive vegetation with various tools such as herbicide, hand tools, chain saws and pole saws. Assists with set-up and clean-up, monitoring, closing down of assigned parks and facilities for programs and/or events. Has the ability to determine and report potential safety hazards or maintenance issues to supervisor for follow-up, as necessary.
Customer Service: Provides polite, friendly and accurate customer service to park and trail patrons; answers questions from patrons and the public in a professional manner; operates equipment and machinery in a safe and responsible manner and is aware of patrons at all times; assists with providing outreach for projects, events and activities. Conducts park and trail inspections and maintenance to ensure the safety of patrons and the public; reports potential safety or maintenance issues to supervisor for follow-up, as necessary. Exercises a high degree of initiative and professionalism to ensure customer satisfaction.
Work Hours: 40 Hours Per Week - 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Tuesday - Saturday
About You
Minimum Qualifications: A High School Diploma or its equivalent and one-year of experience in performing repairs and performing related work in the care and maintenance of parks, facilities and amenities, trails, grounds, or other similar applicable experience. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License at time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to participate on the crew for prescribed fire or wildfire; possession of a Natural Areas Pesticide Applicators License or ability to work with license holders for herbicide treatment of nuisance and invasive plants.
Job Competencies: Basic computer software skills; general operation and maintenance skills with machines, power equipment, hand tools and small equipment (such as lawn mower, leaf blower, chain saw, pole saw, pressure washer); ability to communicate with customers in a courteous, efficient and tactful manner; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials and the general public; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under hot and humid conditions; knowledge of or capacity to learn a work request management system and Smartsheet reporting.
Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
