Under the direction of the Fairplex Learning and Development Center (FLDC) Program and Education Manager, the Arts Studio Coordinator, manages and executes strategies and programs that align with the mission and meet the strategic objectives of FLDC in the areas of art education and appreciation. This includes overseeing open studio hours for our local community members. The Art Studio Coordinator will work with local artists during the open studio sessions. Assists in the studio with distribution of materials and supplies, projects and activities. Works with individuals to encourage and promote success.
This position is a temporary 20-30 week position from February – August.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Welcomes guests, explains rules and makes them feel welcome.
• Organizes the studio with supplies before opening and clean-up of daily activities.
• Assist in building the program by providing programming oversight, feedback and suggestions.
• Work with team to send out invites/marketing to local artists/arts programs.
• Reporting on program to the FLDC team.
• Basic budgeting for grant management/ supplies upkeep.
Qualifications
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
The preferred candidate is an effective decision-maker and possesses an understanding and knowledge of the principles and practices of art and arts programming. Applicant should appreciate the Arts, and Artists, both Fine Arts and Crafts. Must be approachable and engaging displaying an encouraging presence. The ideal candidate has personal experience as an artist, 2-D dry media as well as any/all other kinds (including but not limited to Acrylic Painting, Printmaking, Ceramics/Sculpture, Collage, Inks, Design, etc). Ability to problem solve. Requires professional, responsible experience in the arts. Must be a self-starter, proven leader and be able to manage activities and projects with little supervision. Candidate should consistently demonstrate professionalism; possess exceptional communications skills, the ability to speak before groups and strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Knowledge of and relationships with the Southern California Art Community is desired. Must be an advocate for the Arts Center. Requires organizational skills and the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment. Hours worked will include every Friday occasional weekend work, and some days of the Los Angeles County Fair.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB
1. Must be able to communicate over the telephone
2. Ability to walk and be on feet for several hours a day and lift up to 25 pounds
3. Ability to walk up and down stairs
4. Must have reliable transportation
