Under the general supervision of the Event Programming Director, the Programming Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the creative programming for the annual Los Angeles County Fair as well as other Fairplex-produced events. This role involves managing the planning, logistics, and execution of diverse programs that engage and inspire guests, ensuring they align with Fairplex’s cultural, community, and financial objectives. The Programming Manager will work closely with internal teams, contractors, partners, and community members to deliver world-class experiences.
The Programming Manager plays an essential role in bringing the vision of Fairplex-produced events to life, enhancing the reputation of the Los Angeles County Fair and other events as premier experiences in the region.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist in the development and implementation of programming strategies for self-produced events, including the Los Angeles County Fair, International & Fair Competitions, and “Fairplex Presents” designated events, ensuring alignment with overall organizational objectives
• Manage and oversee the execution of budgets for Fairplex-produced events, ensuring strict adherence to pre-established financial plans and guidelines
• Draft, review, and coordinate contracts and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with programming partners, ensuring compliance with Fairplex’s policies and obtaining required approvals for final execution
• Manage the coordination of logistics, including scheduling, site layout, setup, and teardown, while working closely with Fairplex Operations team to ensure seamless execution of all event aspects
• Support the development and refinement of event timelines and production schedules to maintain efficiency and alignment with project goals
• Plan and lead select Fairplex-produced event planning meetings, ensuring effective communication, coordination, and alignment among all involved teams and stakeholders
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Guest Services, and Operations, to ensure cohesive event delivery and an exceptional guest experience
• Assist in developing post-event reports and debriefs to assess performance, gather feedback, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
• Train and oversee both year-round and event support staff, ensuring all team members are well-prepared and equipped to fulfill their roles effectively
• Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
• A bachelor’s degree preferred. A minimum of 3-5 years of management experience in a similar field is required
• Proven track record of developing and executing successful events and programs
• Strong organizational, project management, and multitasking skills
• Creative thinker with the ability to develop innovative and engaging programming ideas
• Budget management experience
• Must have experience working with various computer applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office applications
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB
• Must be able to work in extreme weather, such as heat, cold, or rain
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work
Salary : $70,000 - $78,000
