Job Summary
Valley High School was Elk Grove’s second comprehensive and traditional high school – for the first time in the 84 years of high school existence, there would be two high schools for Elk Grove students. The new school was built to serve the northern part of the huge 320 square mile district, which covered a large portion of South Sacramento. The name chosen for the high school was intended to reflect the Valley Hi community, which was then one of the newer subdivisions in the south area. It was also chosen to remind us of the great Sacramento Valley and the vast meadowlands that once covered south Sacramento. In 1977 when Valley High opened, Elk Grove secondary education went back to its original plan of 9-12 high schools instead of the three-year high school and the three year junior high school. Our task at Valley High School is to provide learning opportunities for students that empower them to become responsible, ethical citizens who are both academically and technologically adept. We also require students to employ complex thinking skills in order to solve problems as individuals and as group members. Lastly, we strive to find opportunities that will enhance students' ability to participate in, and contribute to, a culturally diverse society.
