The Los Angeles County Office of Education is seeking cybersecurity professionals to join our innovative and leading Technology Services team.

The Information Systems Security Architect designs, implements, and monitors security measures for the protection of information technology systems, networks, servers, and other information by assuring computer systems and network devices are hardened against vulnerabilities and attacks, and ensures the security of highly sensitive data. 

The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following

Knowledge:
  • Information security software, programs, and tools
  • Information security issues, requirements, standards, and trends, including compliance requirements related to Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) and e-Discovery
  • Information security laws and regulations
  • Security and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) software, programs, and tools
  • Risk assessment methods and techniques
  • Incident response procedures and processes
  • Malware such as worms, viruses, spyware, ransomware, and Trojans
  • Basic server, network, and cloud technologies
  • Cloud computing environments, system and network security, authentication and security protocols, and cryptography
  • Application architecture and design, development environments, database design and normalization, network security and infrastructure
  • Authentication, authorization, and encryption technologies
  • Industry-standard tools and frameworks used in penetration testing, such as Metasploit, Burp Suite, Nmap, Kali Linux, and other tools
  • Forensic techniques for investigating incidents
  • Security auditing standards and techniques

Required Education and Experience
Education: An associate’s degree in computer science, business administration, or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification, from an institution of higher learning accredited by a regional accrediting organization recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Experience: Three years of experience developing, implementing, and monitoring security solutions and programs.

OR

Two years of experience as an Information Systems Security Engineer or four years of experience as an Information Systems Security Specialist at the Los Angeles County Office of Education.

Equivalency Provision: Current professional certification in one of the following may substitute for the associate’s degree: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator (CHFI), Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC), or equivalent.   

Additional Requirements: A valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites is required. 

Hybrid remote schedules may be available. To ensure the health and safety of its staff, LACOE may require employees to provide evidence of full vaccination against COVID-19. 

Selection Process
Candidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of a technical interview.

Selection and promotion are based on a competitive examination process. Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Eligibility lasts for 12 months; however, additional recruitment may occur under a separate bulletin with additional candidates being merged onto the eligibility list. Some positions that involve public contact may require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277.5). In addition, the eligibility list resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no eligibility list exists (Education Code 45272). Veterans' Credit may be awarded for entry jobs.
