ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To perform advanced-level land survey work using a variety of instrumentation, and to assist and fill in for the Survey Party Chief.
JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision from a Survey Party Chief or higher classification, the incumbent will:
- Work on land survey field crew setting up, operating, and adjusting a total station and field data collector equipment to establish transit line, control line, and property survey line
- Measure angles for curves, control line, traverses, closures, and property surveys
- Operate level to establish precise benchmark circuit, profile, cross sections, contour grids and grades
- Adjust and maintain land surveying instruments
- Give survey alignment to the survey party worker using tract maps, city and county maps, and field books
- Calculate elevation, curves, grades and distance
- Record all topography locations
- Use pipe and metal locator for land surveying purposes
- Set up blowers and other safety equipment
- Enter sewer manholes and structures to obtain invert elevation, size, material and center line of pipe
- Assume duties of leadership of crew during periods of absence of crew leader
- Analyze data from field crews and provides technical support and training to field crews
- Coordinate survey projects for efficiency
- Operate instruments used in survey work with full technical expertise
- Use and instruct others in the use and care of electronic, digital survey equipment
Applicants must possess all of the following:
- Valid California Class C driver license
- Option #1: Two (2) years of experience with the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County performing duties of a Survey Party Worker II
- Option #2: Three (3) years of experience operating a variety of digital survey equipment
Note: Selected candidate may be required to obtain an FAA Pt. 107 Remote Pilot Certificate to operate an unmanned aerial drone within six (6) months of appointment.
The competitive selection process may cover:
Knowledge of:
- Algebra, geometry, trigonometry
- Principles, methods, and techniques of surveying and drafting
Ability to:
- Operate surveying equipment, make complex mathematical calculations involving geodetics
- Prepare drawings from field survey notes
- Prepare, review and maintain field survey notes
- Lift heavy objects
- Train survey crew members
- Coordinate survey projects to eliminate duplication
Selection Process:
- All applications will be reviewed to determine if the conditions and qualifications for testing are met.
- The selection process will consist of a written test and interview. The written test is weighted at 40%, and the interview is weighted at 60%.
- Candidates must receive a qualifying score on each selection component to move forward in the selection process.
- The first review of applicants is expected to begin the week of March 24.

Salary : $7,815 - $9,710
