Position Summary:
The Los Angeles Lakers are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Database Analyst to support the organization’s data-driven initiatives. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, analyzing, and optimizing the Lakers' databases to ensure data integrity, availability, and usability across various departments. This role will collaborate closely with various departments including, but not limited to, ticketing, corporate partnerships, marketing, and key stakeholders to provide actionable insights, automate processes, and maintain a robust data infrastructure. Additionally, this person will serve as the lead for data integrations, ensuring seamless data exchanges and compliance with industry standards.
Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):
Database & Data Infrastructure Management
- Manage and maintain the Lakers’ data warehouse to ensure data accuracy, security, and efficiency
- Design automated data pipelines or queries using SQL, Python, and cloud-based solutions such as Azure, Snowflake, or AWS to report on key business metrics
- Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to enhance efficiency
- Establish data governance policies to standardize data collection and structures across the organization
Data Integration & Vendor Collaboration
- Serve as the primary point of contact for vendors and league data teams, ensuring efficient data exchanges
- Assist with new data source integrations in partnership with IT and Business Analytics
- Collaborate with vendors on integration of third-party data sources (e.g., CRM, ticketing, digital, social media) into the Lakers’ data ecosystem
- Ensure compliance, standards, and security best practices with all integrations
- Evaluate and recommend new data technologies and vendor solutions to enhance analytics capabilities
Data Analysis, Reporting & Visualization
- Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and ETL processes to support business reporting
- Build and maintain interactive dashboards in Power BI, ensuring standardized KPIs across departments
- Provide self-service analytics tools that empower business users to access key insights
- Perform data validation and quality assurance to ensure accuracy and consistency in reporting
- Communicate complex data insights to stakeholders in a clear and actionable manner
Process Automation & Optimization
- Identify and implement automation to streamline data workflows and minimize manual processes
- Improve integrations between systems to reduce data silos and enhance operational efficiency
- Maintain documentation of data models, workflows, and processes to ensure knowledge sharing and scalability
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical field (or equivalent work experience)
- 1-3 years of professional experience in database management, data analytics, or business intelligence roles
- Experience with SQL and database optimization techniques
- Hands-on experience with Power BI or Tableau (required)
- Familiarity with cloud-based data solutions such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Snowflake (preferred)
- Sports or entertainment industry experience (preferred)
Mandatory Technology Capabilities:
- SQL Proficiency: Ability to write and optimize queries
