Position: Mental Health Clinician II #760261

Program: Mental Health Services

Department: Health Services

Reports to: Director of Mental Health Services

Compensation: $27.70-$36.55 per hour, plus $1.75 per hour Shift Differential Premium for hours worked between 6pm-6am

Schedule: Monday and Wednesday 8:00am-7:00pm 

Status: 50%, Part-Time, Non-Exempt, Union  

Probation: 90 days

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: As the nation’s largest and most experienced provider of LGBT medical and mental health services, we help LGBTQ people lead healthier, happier lives, by keeping their minds and body well. All services are free or low cost. We’re also one of the few Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation with providers who specialize in primary care for LGBTQ people and with a research team working to advance the care and treatment of people in our community.

JOB SUMMARY: The Mental Health Clinician II conducts individual, couple, and group counseling services, documents progress, utilizes short term model in treatment planning to the greatest extent possible, and serves crisis and non-crisis walk-ins, as well as general information and crisis telephone calls.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Conduct individual, couple, and group counseling services for clients presenting to the MHS and document progress in client record immediately following the session.

    Utilize short term model in treatment planning to the greatest extent possible; must receive concurrence of supervisor to extend number of sessions beyond the short-term model protocol.

    Serve on-duty for designated hours each week to handle walk-ins, whether crisis-oriented or not, as well as general information and crisis telephone calls.

    Complete intake at the time of seeing a walk-in client if deemed appropriate.

    Conduct intake, prepare required documentation, and route client record to supervisor for disposition/placement.

    Participate in the multi-disciplinary Clinical Case Conference, presenting assigned cases as they come due for review.

    Make appropriate referrals to services outside the Center, within and to other services within the Department, e.g., psychiatric evaluation, and follow up on those referrals with client to assure appropriateness of referral & continuity of care.

    Participate in the Quality Improvement process practiced in the Clinic.

    Adhere to Clinic Utilization Management protocol to ensure timely and appropriate client service.

    Assume responsibility for completing all documentation in a timely, legible, and thorough manner, submitting client records at the end of each business day, and proper notification of changes in appointment schedule to supervisor and administrative support staff.

    Participate, as assigned, in clinical supervision groups and/or individual supervision on a weekly basis.

    Mandatory attendance at monthly in-service training sessions.

    Assist in the coordination of the work of paraprofessional volunteers and Mental Health Clinicians I.

    Participate with supervisor and/or members of the MHS Management Team in program planning, program evaluation, dissemination activities and training.

    Participate in staff meetings, planning meetings, and other meetings as needed.

    Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.

    A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.

    Master’s degree in social work (MSW only with at least 2000 accrued hours).

    Eligible for licensure in related field of practice.

    Two years counseling experience, i.e., residential care, social services, child welfare services, general counseling, chemical dependency treatment, juvenile justice, youth services, etc.

    Bilingual skills a plus (English/Spanish fluency preferred).

    Ability to work as a team member dedicated to generating resources/services to gay, lesbian, bisexual, & transgender communities.

    Proven ability to work under direct supervision.

    Ability to relate in a non-judgmental and respectful manner to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals, as well as people experiencing a wide variety of emotional and behavioral problems.

    Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with a high level of attention to detail.

    Proficiency with MS Office and other software systems.

    Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
