The Los Angeles Times has a temporary opening for an assistant Op-Ed editor. The principal duties are to solicit, edit and produce opinion content from outside contributors in all formats - breaking news opinion, analysis pieces, letters and more. Generating ideas and seeking out emerging writers are critical to success in this job.

The ideal candidate is someone who thinks creatively about new ways to present opinion journalism. The ability to produce accurate, clear copy quickly in a digital-first environment is crucial. Broad experience with multiplatform content creation and a willingness to experiment are essential.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of two years of editing experience, preferably with opinion content
  • Bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent experience
  • Superior news judgment and knowledge of taste and legal considerations
  • An ethical and inclusive approach in the workplace that promotes positive collaboration
  • Versatility and adaptability, working not just across production platforms but also across subject areas
  • Complete dedication to accuracy and precision

The pay scale the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of the posting is $45.35 to $60.61 and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, experience, training, licenses, certifications, and other business or organizational needs. Compensation will be determined based on the above factors along with the requirements of the position. At the L.A.
