The Los Angeles Times is seeking a temporary video journalist focused on editing and producing.
Our video editors collaborate closely with videographers, photographers, writers, producers, and third-party content providers to create short-form content for The Times’ digital and broadcast platforms.
The successful candidate possesses advanced knowledge of Adobe Premiere, with a sophisticated ability to balance and grade video as well as mix and level sound. The candidate understands the digital landscape, from editing video for YouTube to editing vertically for Instagram and TikTok. The person in this role will edit and produce video pieces and occasionally be expected to shoot as well.
We are looking for a highly organized video journalist who is collaborative by nature, communicates effectively, and can meet deadlines. Motion graphics skills are a plus.
Responsibilities
- Regularly pitch stories based off original ideas or through working with reporters to create video content to go with articles
- Create quick-turn news clips from various sources to post in a timely manner as news breaks
- Edit video for all formats as needed on the L.A. Times site, YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok
- Think strategically about the optimal use of each platform and work on multiple rounds of edits
- Shoot video as needed
- Work with audience engagement staff to promote video content
- Demonstrate a foundational understanding of data and analytics to inform tactical decisions in video strategy
Requirements
This temporary position is expected to last three months and will be based in El Segundo, Calif. Occasional night and weekend work is possible.

The pay scale the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of the posting is $28.33 to $55.91 and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, experience, training, licenses, certifications, and other business or organizational needs. Compensation will be determined based on the above factors along with the requirements of the position. At the L.A. Times, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.
