TEACHERS OF SPECIAL EDUCATION
Special Education Teachers are responsible to the principal for care, control, and instruction of the students in their charge within a suitable learning environment.
The duties and responsibilities of the Special Education Teachers are to:
- 1. Assist, with the parent and other required professionals, in the development of each pupil’s Individualized Education Program in compliance with current laws.
- 2. Implement each pupil’s Individualized Education Program as agreed upon.
- 3. Approach learning with an understanding of emotional involvement which affect the learning capabilities of children.
- 4. Take into consideration the implications of neurological, emotional and physical impairments as they may affect learning capabilities and emotional judgment.
- 5. Recognize the inter-relationship of physical and emotional maturity and its relationship to instruction.
- 6. Maintain consistent communication with parents to develop and maintain their understanding of the Individualized Education Program and its effectiveness.
- 7. Become acquainted with existing pupil records and update them as required and to provide whatever other information is requested by the parent.
- 8. Use techniques to more effectively encourage pupils to improve in the areas requiring amelioration.
- 9. Assist in maintenance of an ongoing inservice training program for both regular and special education teachers.
10. Act as a resource person to other District and school personnel and also interpret special education programs to regular classroom teachers in the District.
11. Cooperate and communicate with other District and school personnel and also interpret special education programs to regular classroom teachers in the District.
12. Attend job-related meetings and activities specified by the Director of Special Education for the special education program, or the principal of the school(s) served as teaching assignment permits.
13. Give direction to the aide assigned to the teacher toward the end that the aide becomes an effective paraprofessional teacher.
14. Operate within the established organizational pattern of the school(s) served.
15. Fulfill additional duties assigned by the District administration and/or principal(s) of the school(s) serviced.
