What are the responsibilities and job description for the Art Teacher position at Los Cenzontles Cultural Arts Academy?
Job Summary
Los Cenzontles Cultural Arts Academy is seeking a passionate and experienced Art Teacher to join our team. We are looking for a mature, self-motivated individual committed to helping children learn, explore, and grow through creative expression. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching young students, particularly in early childhood or elementary education, and will be eager to learn and embrace Los Cenzontles’ unique arts education methodology.
About the Role
The Art Teacher will inherit and build upon the legacy of artistic instruction established by Marie-Astrid Do-Rodriguez, who has developed a rich and engaging arts education program over the past three decades. The selected individual will have the ability to work independently, while working closely with Marie-Astrid to understand and uphold the values, philosophy, and practices that shape our learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Teach two weekly art classes, possibly more in the future. We currently offer a class for ages 7-8, and another for ages 9-11.
- Conceive and take ownership of age-appropriate art projects that inspire students and encourage artistic exploration.
- Work independently to fully prepare lesson plans, including initial project concepts, obtaining materials, and making samples.
- Assist with Day of the Dead installations, under direction of Marie-Astrid Do-Rodriguez, contributing to the construction of our annual Dia de los Muertos altar and incorporating student artwork into the installation.
- Foster a supportive and collaborative atmosphere where students feel encouraged to express themselves artistically while learning to work with their peers.
- Promote confidence and creativity, helping students overcome self-doubt and embrace artistic challenges.
- Document progress and communicate effectively with both students and parents.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with the Los Cenzontles team.
Ideal Candidate
- Experience in early childhood or elementary education, particularly with children ages 6-12. (A Montessori background with an emphasis on art teaching is highly desirable.)
- Strong background in art education, with the ability to teach artistic techniques beyond traditional Mexican folk arts while incorporating cultural elements.
- Ability to guide students in working with accessible materials and techniques, fostering growth and practice in artistic expression.
- A keen sensitivity to children’s well-being, providing supportive guidance while allowing space for creative exploration.
- Enthusiasm for teamwork and collaboration within a creative, community-driven environment.
Why Join Us?
- Small class sizes (currently a maximum of six students per class).
- A beautiful and dedicated art room for teaching.
- A deeply supportive and inspiring environment, rooted in decades of artistic and cultural education.
- The opportunity to shape young minds through creativity and artistic exploration.
- All classes are taught in English, and Spanish-speaking is not required.
We are not a daycare—we are a cultural arts academy dedicated to fostering artistic growth and cultural understanding in our students.
If you are passionate about art education and eager to be part of a dynamic and meaningful program, we’d love to hear from you!
