1. Leadership & Staff Management :
o Manage and oversee the Preop and PACU nursing teams, ensuring appropriate staffing levels, training, and performance evaluations.
o Ensure adherence to clinical protocols and guidelines, performing audits and ensuring that patient care meets established quality and safety standards
o Schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage for all surgical procedures.
2. Operational Oversight :
o Ensure smooth patient transitions between Preop, Surgical, and PACU phases. Collaborate with surgical teams to assess patient needs and plan care appropriately.
o Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance patient care and safety.
o Monitor and optimize surgical scheduling and patient flow.
3. Quality Assurance :
o Serve as the Pharmaceutical Services Officer with quarterly meeting attendance.
o Implement quality improvement initiatives and monitor compliance with clinical standards, in collaboration with the Medical Director.
o Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure best practices are followed.
o Address and resolve any issues related to patient safety or staff performance.
o Provide timely and clear communication to patients' families regarding surgical outcomes, recovery, and discharge instructions
4. Regulatory Compliance :
o Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA and CMS standards.
o Maintain AAAHC accreditation by preparing for inspections and audits.
o Stay updated on industry trends and changes in regulations.
5. Budget Management :
o Assist in the development and management of the pre-operative and PACU departmental budget.
o Collaborate with Materials Manager / OR Coordinator to assist with monitoring supply inventory and manage procurement processes to ensure cost-effectiveness.
6. Collaboration and Communication :
o Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other medical staff to facilitate effective communication and teamwork.
o Liaise with administrative staff to ensure smooth operations and patient care coordination.
7. Patient Care :
o Ensure a patient-centered approach to care, addressing concerns and feedback promptly.
o Promote a culture of safety and compassion within the Preop and PACU team.
o Provide preoperative and postoperative patient education, ensuring patients understand their procedures, anesthesia risks, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions
o Ensure continuous monitoring of patients in the PACU, assess their progress post-surgery, manage any complications, and ensure safe discharge criteria are met.
o Monitor and manage post-operative pain and provide appropriate interventions as needed in coordination with the surgical team.
Requirements :
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Current Louisiana RN license and relevant certifications.
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a surgical setting, with supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, equipment, and sterile techniques.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems and other healthcare technology.
