Job Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Farm Manager and the Garden & Landscape Manager, the primary duties of the Los Poblanos Farmer are to assist in the growth, planning, and stewardship of all aspects of the property's vegetable, herb, fruit, and flower production areas. This includes the greenhouse, hoop house, fruit trees, pasture, farm fields, and to assist with animals and compost when needed. Farmers must utilize organic and regenerative agricultural practices, including the five Healthy Soil Principles. We aim to preserve Los Poblanos' core values and stay true to our mission statement.
Essential Job Functions:
- Greet customers, patrons, and visitors
- Work with the other farmers to achieve the goals and objectives of the farm operation in the context of the overall vision of Los Poblanos
- Using regenerative/organic farming practices, including crop rotation, maintaining soil cover, minimize soil disturbance, keep living roots in soil, maximize biodiversity, keep animals on land, seed saving, cover crops, and composting
- Long-term and Short-Term soil building practices and cropping systems development
- Take instruction and work independently without supervision
- Cultivation and weeding of farm fields and farm proper
- Adhere to all food safety standards
- Maintaining and organizing all farm tools & equipment
- Assist in the propagation of vegetables, flowers, herbs, and fruits for the property
- Assist in the harvesting of vegetables, flowers, herbs, and fruit on the property
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of farm infrastructure, machinery, and tools
- Post-harvest handling of all produce
- Assist with irrigation of all the farm fields
- Helping as needed with groundskeeping and with any large tasks (e.g., lavender harvest, weeding rose garden, etc.as requested by the Farm Manager)
- Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate the desire to be consistent
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team as well as alone
- Problem-solving skills
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, with minimal vacations during the growing season
- Friendly, goal-oriented, and professional attitude
