Job Summary and Qualifications

Operates and maintains boilers and associated equipment. The Boiler Attendant must be able to demonstrate and/or articulate the knowledge, skill and ability to perform the following duties in the safe operation of a boiler such as:

• Explain the function and operation of all controls on the boiler.
• Light off the boiler.All possible methods of feeding water to the boiler. Blow down the boiler.
• Respond to and take appropriate actions if the water dropped below the lowest permissible operating level.
• The attendant shall personally check the operation of the automatic controls at the beginning of each shift.
• Identify and respond to the water level in the boiler when too high.
• Switch over boilers as appropriate. The attendant shall personally check the operation of the boiler, the necessary auxiliaries and water level in the boiler at such intervals as are necessary to insure the safe operation of the boiler.
• Observe various meters and gauges and take appropriate action for safe operation.
• Shut down the boiler.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Previous boiler room attendant experience preferred.
