What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Composites Technician position at Lost Angels Children's Project?
The Automotive Composites Technician will support and maintain the LACP Trevor Shop and composites vocational program(s) from concept to fully operational. Work independently and as part of the Composites team to achieve the organizational objective of service, assistance, on-the-job training, professional development, and sustainable job placement for LACP program participants (Students).
Direct Responsibilities:
- Support Lead Composites Instructor with daily shop operations – inclusive of all Trevor shop projects, shop programs (composites vocational program), and daily shop operations.
- Execute daily and weekly shop assignments, plans, schedules to ensure effectiveness of all programs and projects.
- Serve as an instructor and mentor to vocational program students and student instructors providing daily hands-on instruction and oversight of multiple project teams in shop functions, composites, work ethic, and skill development, training to professional standards.
- Train, supervise, and manage performance of students to ensure quality standards are met.
- Address student/employee disputes, questions, and concerns ensuring all staff adhere to safety standards, company policies, and procedures. As needed, prepare and coordinate student/employee work schedules in accordance with curriculum.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and productive environment. Facilitate and oversee all shop operations ensuring the shop is adequately stocked, clean, and maintained.
- Collaborate with management and cross-functional teams to strategize, develop scope, deliverables, required resources, create curriculums, budget, protocols for student evaluation, and timing for initiatives.
- Identify key requirements needed from cross-functional teams and external vendors. Manage expenses for maximum productivity. Be accountable for delivering against organizational goals/objectives.
- Work closely with Composites team to identify risks and opportunities across multiple projects within the department. Analyze, evaluate, and overcome program risks, and produce program reports for management and stakeholders as needed.
- Understand fundamentals and factors of car restoration and composites, including materials, fabrication, and processing as it relates within aerospace – lead composite training for program participants.
- Participate in organizational activities, fundraising events, networking events, staff meetings, trainings (as requested).
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- 7 years of composites and/or classic car restoration experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Driver’s License
- Reliable means of transportation
- Able to lift/carry 50 lbs.
- Working knowledge of general office equipment/software.
- Experience working in social services/education/training a plus.
- Experience in the instruction of welding, metal fabrication, composites, blueprinting, engine assembly, and electrical.
- Proficient in the safe and efficient use of all shop tools and equipment.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, supervise staff or other departments.
- Ability to work well with and be responsive to the needs of; staff, students, and management including the Board of Directors, funding sources, and organizational partners.
- Exceptional leadership, management, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and remain calm in demanding and unpredictable situations.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00 - $45.00 per hour
