Position Summary
This position handles the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, update, and calibration of complex analytical and other similar equipment or devices throughout the work location to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.
This position has up to three (3) levels depending on experience and skills. Employees move through the levels based on KSA’s and behaviors displayed.
Essential Job Functions
§ Works with multiple types of equipment including, but not limited to, gas chromatographs, various sampling systems, Continuous Emission Monitoring (“CEM”) analyzers, Mass Spectrometers, BTU analyzers, continuous online analyzers, combustion analyzers, and pH and conductivity equipment.
§ Conducts calibration tests to determine performance or reliability of mechanical, structural, or electromechanical equipment; analyzes test data to identify defects or determine calibration requirements; calibrates devices based on standards for each device as required
§ Inspects equipment and devices visually to detect surface defects; repairs as approved
§ Develops new calibration methods or techniques based on measurement science, analyses, or calibration requirements as required
§ Disassembles and reassembles equipment or devices for inspection, review, or identification of deficiencies; repairs precision devices or equipment when indicated
§ Maintains and/or repairs measurement devices or equipment used for calibration testing as appropriate
§ Reviews blueprints, technical drawings, and/or specifications to determine work requirements; analyzes project data to verify specifications or requirements as assigned
§ Reads blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical orders; draws detailed plans or technical illustrations of equipment, instruments, or other devices
§ Plans calibration test sequences according to equipment specifications and scientific principles; prepares detailed work plans
§ Tests performance of electrical, electronic, mechanical, or integrated systems or equipment; evaluates characteristics of products; maintains test equipment in good working order
§ Inspects facility or equipment condition or functioning; proposes repairs or replacement as appropriate
§ Verifies part dimensions or clearances using precision measuring instruments to ensure conformance to specifications; orders materials, supplies, parts, or equipment as approved by management
§ Stays up to date on technical knowledge for all equipment and devices at assigned location
§ Writes reports or evaluations as required
§ Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of EHSS principles and values; champions safety at all times; participates in and/or leads safety teams or projects as appropriate
§ Performs other duties assigned by management that generally fall within the expected scope of this position

Experience & KSA’s Required
§ Experience in chemical plant operations highly preferred
§ Maintenance Technician experience helpful
§ Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience with analyzers and other calibration equipment required; technical degree considered in place of experience
§ Ability to read, interpret and follow manuals and other regulatory documents as applicable
§ High school level mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; knowledge of fractions; ability to perform various mathematical conversions commonly used in petrochemical industry
§ Proven organizational skills and ability to schedule time independently
§ Understanding of general business concepts
§ Must be able to work varying and/or rotating shifts
§ Experience working with Federal, state and local environmental regulations including RCRA
§ Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow through on assignments
§ Good computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to use database systems and other programs and applications used by this position and at Company
§ Fluent in English language including reading, writing and speaking; ability to read and write at a minimum of high school level; ability to clearly communicate to all levels in organization
Education Requirement
§ High School Diploma or GED required
§ Technology degree helpful
§ Bachelor’s degree in technical field a plus

This position requires an employee to be exposed to outside elements. Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 100° and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 0° in the winter months. There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. The employee will enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments. Employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location. Loud sounds and vibrations will be experienced at times. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.

The employee will be required to climb ladders and storage tanks up to 350’ in height. The employee will be required to enter confined spaces and crawl under rail cars or trucks. The employee will lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to travel by car, truck, rail, air, or other vehicles.
