POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This position generates cad models and detail drawings from sketches or layouts provided by other drafters, designers, technicians, programmers, or engineers. Most data are supplied in such forms as to require little interpretation, but some discretion and independent judgment will be required in showing dimensions, tolerances, and other essential characteristics to make drawings clear and complete. Work will be checked by another member of the Engineering Staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Prepare a variety of detailed drawings.
• May make simple layout drawings, may assist in preparing parts lists, and will perform other duties as required. 
• Makes variety of geometric, trigonometric, or algebraic calculations, usually following standard procedures and using tables. 
• Use standard and some specialized drafting tools and equipment. 
• Utilizes computer aided drafting techniques to perform applicable detailing work.
• Provides technical assistance to the engineering department.
• Creates customer approval drawings for new products and designs.
• Creates and maintains engineering drawings for manufactured products.
• Analyzes and implements customer revisions of current products and maintains and updates product masters.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

• One to two years’ college or trade school education in mechanical drawing and related areas is helpful
• Well-rounded, practical experience may be substituted for formal training
• Able to move from design concept to finished design, including layouts and tolerance valuations and detail drawings
• Minimum five years’ on-the-job experience
• A thorough knowledge of manufacturing methods and machine shop practices
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• PC skills including ERP, MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Access, and Intranet/Intranet, is a plus
• A strong ability to set and prioritize goals 
• Ability to multi-task within a TEAM environment
• A positive can-do attitude
• Strong motivation to succeed
• Problem solving skills 
• Refuse to be satisfied with average performance 
• Listen attentively
• Model and Drawing creation in SolidWorks
• Review of technical specifications 
• Review of customer supplied drawings 
• Assist in large project management and production applications 
• Makes final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project
• Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, metal materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings
• Make any adjustments or changes necessary or desired
• Draws finished designs from sketches
• Other duties as assigned (may include assisting in tool design.)

LOU-RICH TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

• Applicable training will be completed by following the syllabi (Human Resources, Safety, IFS - Timeclock, IFS - Navigation, ISO, Inspection Hand Tools, Inspection Forms, CMM, and Technical) for each new hire and that will be verified by the Employee      Orientation & Job Qualification form within the first 60 days of employment. Additional applicable training will be completed by following  the individual’s assigned department training matrix, Engineering (F4400-037).
• Follow engineering training syllabus (Technical from above list). The effectiveness of engineering training guidelines      will be determined by employee knowledge and demonstration of learned concepts. Additional training after the first several weeks of on-the-job training will be arranged by the Supervisor in preparation for operating on their own as needed. Any follow-up training will be evaluated and provided at the 60-day review or as deemed necessary for the position.
• Training program decided by Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
