Loudoun County Department of Family Services seeks a dedicated, professional candidate for its Adult Protective Services Investigator role. The successful candidate will join the Adult and Aging Unit and the diverse department that envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. The Department supports individuals and families in the community to live their best lives while advocating for those most vulnerable and respecting their right to self-determination. This role involves conducting APS investigations, providing on-call support, and delivering essential on-going case management services to older adults and adults with disabilities. The position is based in our Leesburg office but may require work from other locations as needed. Standard hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some flexibility required to meet programmatic needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Investigate reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of vulnerable adults.
  • Conduct unannounced home visits in the community to respond to APS allegations.
  • Gather and analyze evidence, interview relevant parties, and document findings.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Respond to emergency calls and provide immediate assistance to vulnerable adults.
  • Be available for on-call duties as scheduled, ensuring timely and effective response to crisis situations.
  • Assess clients’ needs and develop protective service plans tailored to each client’s situation.
  • Advocate for clients' rights and connect them with appropriate resources and services.
  • Monitor clients' progress and adjust service plans as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed case records, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Complete necessary federal, state, and local planning and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry into required systems.
  • Coordinate with other agencies and participate in multi-disciplinary and inter-agency teams to provide comprehensive services to clients.
  • Conduct community presentations and serve as a resource to clients and the community in areas of expertise.
  • Inform clients of related services programs, rules, regulations, and their rights to participate.
Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience. 

Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Public Administration, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field; two (2) years of related work experience in a social service or child/adult welfare agency.

Preferred:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Adult Protective Services/Adult Services programs and procedures.
  • Significant experience in conducting APS investigations and providing APS on-going case management services to older adults and/or adults with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of social work theory, casework methods, and community organization/resources.
  • Understanding of human behavior and the behavioral sciences, particularly concerning human development, aging, family dynamics, and interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to engage in sensitive discussions with clients about various aspects of their lives.
  • Capacity to respond effectively in crisis situations.
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Gerontology, or a related field.
  • Experience working in local government or a department of social services.
  • Bi-lingual skills in Spanish and English. 
  • Successful candidates must be available to work primarily day shift, nights, and scheduled weekends and holidays.
  • This position is required to report to work during times designated countywide as approved for unscheduled leave regardless of the emergency (e.g., weather, transportation, disaster).
  • Candidates may also be required to work and may be assigned to an alternate worksite(s) within the county to carry out duties that support operational needs.
  • Obtain specific training such as CPS/Foster Care/APS state training as required or desired for the assigned area.
  • Successful candidates will undergo CPS, Credit, Criminal, and DMV checks.
  • The candidate must possess and maintain a valid resident driver's license (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).

Salary : $64,900 - $110,330
