What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fire Inspector position at Loudoun County Government?
Loudoun County Fire and Rescue is a combination career/volunteer organization comprised of over 795 employees and 700 active operational and administrative volunteers. Operationally, we are responsible for staffing 20 Fire/Rescue stations, and an increased demand on Fire, Rescue, and EMS services necessitate the continued expansion of our ranks. • Conducts fire, safety, and explosives inspections, including use, storage, and transport. Issues corrective action orders and summons to address hazardous or unsafe conditions and violations in accordance with the Code of Virginia; submits detailed reports. Conducts follow-up inspections to ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Conducts fire protection system inspections and verifies compliance testing.
• Conducts fire alarm system inspections and verifies compliance testing.
• Issues permits in accordance with the Loudoun County Fire Prevention Code and related ordinances.
• Assists in the production of reports to inform decision-making and departmental goal achievement.
• Participates in on-the-job and instructor-led training to maintain required performance levels and certifications.
• Provides technical fire and life safety information to citizens and other professional staff, responding to inquiries about laws, regulations, and safety practices. Conducts public education programs and professional presentations.
• Advises, educates, and enforces the Loudoun County Fire Prevention Code.
• Conducts code research and responds to customer service inquiries related to assigned specialty areas within the department.
• Maintains accurate and complete records, including plans, policies, procedures, and processes files. Provides reports as required by department and/or State Administrative Agent guidelines.
• Leads fire inspections, surveys, lock box surveys, street address research, and mapping.
• Schedules and manages work time effectively to complete assignments within set timeframes, while providing exceptional service to citizens and maintaining a professional demeanor with citizens, volunteers, and staff.
Valid state driver's license and good driving record required.
Preferred, but not required: NFPA Hazardous Materials Operations, NFPA Firefighter I and II.
Salary : $60,585 - $102,995
