The Loudoun County Planning and Zoning Customer Service Center is seeking a professional planner for a Planning Analyst position. The primary responsibility is researching and analyzing approved land development applications and synthesizing information from many sources to create and present summaries and illustratives that communicate and advise managers, leaders, and stakeholders. This position researches and examines planning topics and data, assists with project management, responds to customer inquiries, prepares complex reports and diagrams, and resolves customer service issues. The position analyzes and presents data that is integral to County Boards and Commissions as they evaluate proposed developments and plan future public facilities and services. The Planning Analyst interprets County planning policies and makes recommendations for community development initiatives, establishes, and populates residential and nonresidential pipeline databases, independently manages comprehensive research assignments, and projects, and prepares and presents complex planning documents and graphics for public consumption. Loudoun County is a dynamic community that is leading growth in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
This position is eligible for a $6,000 hiring bonus in accordance with the County’s Hiring and Retention Bonus Program. Hiring salary is commensurate with experience Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Management, Public Administration, Urban Management, Architecture, Business Administration, Landscape Architecture, Geography, or related field; three (3) years of related work experience in professional planning preferably in a government setting OR Master’s degree in Planning, Management, Public Administration, Urban Management, Architecture, Business Administration, Landscape Architecture, Geography, or related field; including one (1) year of professional planning experience ; or equivalent combination of education and experience. This position requires a criminal background, valid driver’s license and driving record check. After a training period, this position is eligible for two days of telework per week. Relocation assistance is available to successful candidates that live more than 40 miles away.
This position requires the ability to research complex zoning issues, interpret land development applications approved by Loudoun County, prepare written correspondence, read plans, prepare complex charts and graphics, and interact with managers and the public. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt to a variety of situations including frequent interactions with staff and customers.
