As a Recreation Programmer, you’ll play a key role in designing, implementing, and overseeing diverse recreational programs and special events tailored to the needs of our vibrant community—including youth, teens, adults, and seniors. This multifaceted role combines program planning and execution with community outreach, volunteer coordination, facility operations, and budget management.
You’ll be responsible for ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, creating innovative programs (including mobile recreation), and promoting an inclusive environment that supports all community members, including underserved populations. The ideal candidate is flexible, collaborative, and excited about making a meaningful impact through recreation and engagement.
We are currently hiring for the following location(s):
• Dulles South Senior Center, South Riding, VA
• Claude Moore Recreation & Community Center, Sterling, VA
• Design, implement, and manage recreational programs across a variety of age groups and interest areas.
• Evaluate program success and adapt offerings based on community feedback and evolving needs.
• Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers, part-time instructors, and seasonal staff.
• Lead special events and projects, including marketing, logistics, permitting, budgeting, and staffing.
• Oversee the general activities of facility users and ensure compliance with safety and operational guidelines.
• Promote programs through flyers, news releases, and staff communication.
• Manage program-related purchasing, reporting, and budgeting.
• Collaborate with team members to foster a supportive, engaging environment.
• Provide backup driving support when needed (CDL Class C with Passenger Endorsement required for the Dulles South role).
• Creative thinkers with a passion for community enrichment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience in recreational programming, community engagement, and event planning.
• Flexibility to work a schedule that may include weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• CDL (Class C with Passenger Endorsement) preferred or required depending on location.
High School Diploma or equivalent and two years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or Leisure Services or a related field.
• Experience Working with Volunteers
• One (1) year of experience managing large-scale events and conducting outreach activities in a community setting.
Salary : $46,009 - $78,215
