Job Summary
The Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services in Loudoun County is currently in search of qualified candidates for two full-time Senior Horticulture Technician positions. This position is chiefly focused on the planning, oversight, and implementation of advanced horticultural work at municipal facilities in the County, performed both autonomously and as a member of a team. The essential functions of this role involve the application of herbicides and pesticides, executing complex pruning techniques, and managing the installation and care of high-value plantings. The responsibilities further include performing root-flare excavations, controlling invasive exotic species, field-editing plantings, and applying precision fertilization. The individual will also be tasked with maintaining mandated records related to pesticide use, leading a team dedicated to specialized horticultural tasks, and keeping abreast of advancements in biology, taxonomy, ecology, chemistry, and other scientific areas. This role entails supervisory duties over the Horticulture Technician position and involves leading and executing horticultural tasks.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in Horticulture or related field and two (2) years of related work experience in horticulture or arboriculture to include some supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
Must undergo criminal, credit, and DMV backgrounds. Valid driver's license and good driving record. Annual reviews of driving records may be conducted to maintain qualifications. Valid Registered Technician certification is required. Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator and Certified Fertilizer Applicator certifications are required within 6 months of employment. County supervisory and e-learning training as required. The department may require additional certifications related to the position.
