JOB QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Certified Technician Preferred (Technicians should successfully complete a Central Service Certification examination within eighteen months of employment (from date of hire) and should maintain throughout the course of employment. Must be able to provide documentation of certification when requested.
3. Ability to multi-task when needed.
4. Good Interpersonal Skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working conditions and to receive and give constructive feedback.
5. Self-motivated, able to work independently with little to no supervision.
6. Ability to introduce, accept, and implement change into work flows.
7. Ability to utilize computer system (Word, Excel etc.).
Pay Rate $20 per hour
JOB DUTIES (* denotes “essential function”)
- Demonstrates the WMH Customer Service Values, which are key in providing quality service to patients and customers. *
- Collaborates daily with the Operating Room (OR) to ensure the availability of adequate quantities of instrumentation required to support the daily surgical cases including but not limited to preparation, transportation, and inspection of sterile instrumentation and trays.
- Decontaminates instruments and equipment (including Loaner instrumentation) according to Instructions for Use (IFU) and established policies and procedures to prevent cross contamination. Preforms decontamination processes utilizing Proper Protection Equipment (PPE), effectively cleans instrumentation by pre-soaking, manually and mechanically cleaning
- Disassembles instrumentation composed of more than one part or piece, flushes and brushes lumen instruments, and thoroughly rinses instrumentation.
- Knowledgeable on the cleaning and operation of all mechanical equipment in Sterile Processing Department according to Manufacturer’s Instruction (Sonic Washer, Washer Decontaminators, Manual and Automatic Soap Dispensers (ensuring adequate detergent levels), Attest incubators, Steam and Sterrad sterilizers.
- Performs and monitors daily mechanical cleaning equipment such as Tosi and Sonochecks.
- Maintains accurate records of biological sterilization monitors, interprets the results and completes documentation accurately to reflect that all parameters have been met for all testing to include Bowie Dick and load numbers for Steam and Sterrad sterilizations.
- Performs inspection of instrumentation carefully for cleanliness, sharpness, dents rust, flaws or damage prior to assembly. Removing any instrumentation needing repairs or sharpening.
- Knowledgeable on the proper assembly of instrument trays including but not limited to; instrument identification, positioning of instruments, disassembly of instruments with more than one piece, use of instrument protectors, tray weight, and trauma trays (i.e. Synthes, Zimmer etc.).
- Uses the proper labeling techniques including tray name, load lot identification, chemical integrators, event-related or expiration information.
- Utilizes proper wrapping, containers or instrument pouches as required.
- Performs sterilization utilizing the Steam or Sterrad sterilizers using quality control tests within every load. Properly selects cycle parameters and verifies that parameters have been met. Distinguishes the method of sterilization for instrumentation following IFU’s. Properly loads and unloads sterilizers ensuring that sterilized items have been properly cooled before handling. Initiates all recall procedures when process biologicals that failed sterilization process.
- Properly stores sterile instrumentation and supplies under environmentally controlled conditions. Maintains daily temperature logs and accurately completes tissue tests and documents accordingly. Handles and inspects packaging to avoid compromising sterility. Rotates instrumentation by utilizing First in First out method (FIFO).
- Reports any questionable monitor indicating a mechanical, chemical, or biological malfunction immediately to the Manager.
