Job Summary: The Lead Material Handler in production is responsible for picking parts from laser-cut sheets using their hands, packaging parts on pallets, moving parts using a forklift, and provide communication, supervision and leadership to the department.

Job Summary: The Lead Material Handler in production is responsible for picking parts from laser-cut sheets using their hands, packaging parts on pallets, moving parts using a forklift, and provide communication, supervision and leadership to the department.
Job Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Answer basic product quality questions, i.e., bad cuts, mild surface quality questions and contact supervisor with any question that cannot be answered
- Oversee part packaging requirements in skeleton area
- Report employee accidents/injuries/near misses/hazards to supervisor
- Report excessive employee tardiness to supervisor
- Work with scheduler if changes to picking order need to be made
- Train new or cross training employees on picking process and procedures
- Help supervisor identify employee strengths and areas of needed improvement
- Help identify process needed to be followed for customers that don’t follow normal process and procedures.
- Handle assorted steel raw material and steel scrap
- Separate/ “pick” parts from skeletons that are cut on the laser and stack onto pallet/containers
- Package parts using banding or shrink wrap, as needed
- Safely operate forklift to load and unload material and to move completed parts
- Occasionally kit parts that go to welding
- Operate small hand & power tools
- Maintain work area and production equipment in clean and orderly condition
- Follow all standard safety regulations
- Perform work in a manner that all products conform to prescribed quality standards
- Use and understand Global Shop system for data collection, work instructions, routers and prints
- Participate in and support continuous process improvement

Knowledge & Experience:
- Ability to safely and effectively operate equipment
- Proficient with counting and mathematical equations
- Ability to read and interpret documents
- Ability to communicate orally or in written form effectively with personnel
- Certified forklift operator (preferred)
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (preferred)
